Catherine Zeta-Jones’s Dressing Room Decor

Dec 10, 2009 @ 3:00 pm

It turns out we’re not the only ones who are fans of Matt Schwartz’s Polaroid photography—Catherine Zeta-Jones is too! She purchased several pieces to decorate the walls of her Broadway dressing room where she is starring in the classic Stephen Sondheim show, A Little Night Music. Schwartz’s gorgeously faded images evoke lazy summer days, with a grainy, romantic effect that comes from his method of transferring Polaroids to watercolor paper. Retro subjects like pin-up girls, old records, and gumball machines make the photos feel whimsical and super nostalgic. More

Set a Gossip Girl Tabletop

Dec 3, 2009 @ 11:00 am

Secrets and scandals were flying at Rufus and Lily’s Thanksgiving feast on this week’s Gossip Girl, but what really caught our attention was their sumptuous, over-the-top dinner table! The gorgeous gold dinnerware is from L’Objet’s Agean Gold collection and sparkles just enough under candlelight, setting the perfect mood for any dinner party. Incorporate these pieces into your tabletop this month for a super luxe (and hopefully drama-free) holiday bash. More

Cook Like Thomas Keller

Nov 23, 2009 @ 10:45 am

Super-star chef Thomas Keller opened his newest Bouchon Bistro in Los Angeles last week. Celebs like Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Ryan Seacrest flocked to the party, where Keller opened his kitchen to give guests a peek behind the scenes. If you can’t make it to one of Keller’s restaurants, try your hand at one of his recipes from his new cookbook, Ad Hoc at Home. It’s filled with delectable, down-to-earth fare (like gruyere grilled cheese and braised beef short ribs), plus expert tips. For example, the perfect cooking tool is a cast-iron skillet. “If you could have one pan in your kitchen, this is the one I would give you,” Keller says.

Style at Home: Vintage Maps Make Affordable Art

Oct 22, 2009 @ 3:00 pm

Spotted this week at the Highpoint furniture market in North Carolina: colorful, framed vintage maps at the Mitchell Gold showroom. Known for super stylish, comfortable furniture, designers Mitchell Gold and Bob Williams are also experts at mixing and matching great pieces for less. “We love antique maps over a desk or credenza or in pairs over a sofa —they are one of a kind and add such visual and graphic impact to a space,” says Gold. “Even better: find one from a geographic area that means something to you!” These one-of-a-kind maps will be available in Mitchell Gold stores this coming February. You can also create your own with an inexpensive map from Ward Maps (or splurge at www.styledevie.com). Pair with a shiny red frame like this one from Graphic Ice for an added punch.

Check out their new book, The Comfortable Home, for more budget-friendly decorating ideas.

Style at Home: Chic Uses for Trunks

Restoration Hardware - trunksCourtesy of Restoration Hardware; Courtesy Photo

Check out the latest, genius furniture design from Restoration Hardware’s new Artisan collection: part classic leather steamer truck, part gorgeous home-office, the Mayfair Trunk Secretary has a very Queen Elizabeth 2 vibe to it. We love the worn leather sides, linen-covered filing cabinets and antiqued metal hardware. If you don’t have room for a larger-than-life steamer trunk in your apartment, look for vintage leather suitcases on Ebay. Stack the cases as a side table and use as hidden storage for stationary and files (inset).
