Runway Looks We Love: Yves Saint Laurent

Mar 6, 2012 @ 3:20 pm

Yves Saint Laurent creative director Stefano Pilati is leaving his position at the label soon, and showed his last collection during Paris Fashion Week today. The goodbye-runway show featured a powerful lineup of dark-hued, moody looks, like chainmail dresses, leather separates, and precisely-cut suiting in shades of dark green, blood red, and black. Accessories also had a dark feel, with embellished chunky cuffs, calla lily chokers, sexy platforms with mirrored heels, and waist-cinching wide belts. See our favorite looks in the gallery now.

Winter Skincare Idea: Tinted Lip Balms

Feb 10, 2012 @ 3:00 pm

Tinted lip balms are having a moment! Over the summer, Yves Saint Laurent launched its Volupte Sheer Candy glosses, which became a cult favorite, and other labels quickly jumped on the tinted balm bandwagon. While the shades look intimidating in the tube, they impart a sheer wash of color when applied. Try out a sweet candy rose like L’Oreal Paris’s Colour Riche Lip Balm in Pink Satin ($8; lorealparisusa.com), or if you’re feeling daring, Chanel’s citrus-hued Rouge Coco Shine in Flirt ($33; chanel.com). We also love YSL’s Volupte Sheer Candy in Luscious Cherry ($30; yslbeautyus.com), and Revlon’s Color Burst Lip Butter in Sweet Tart ($8; ulta.com). Plus, the super-moisturizing formulas keep your pucker hydrated even in the harshest winter weather.

Yves Saint Laurent’s new Vernis à Lèvres liquid lipstick just launched stateside, and it’s quickly becoming one of the most sought-after new beauty products. The lipgloss-lipstick-lipstain hybrid is popular because it imparts an intense color with a mirror-like shine on pretty pouts. Since the product’s January 17th release on sephora.com, five colors have completely sold out, WWD reports. Luckily, a few shades, including Rose Gouache and Rose Vinyl (pictured) are still available for $32 each onlineIf you don’t see your favorite color, you’ll have to wait until April, when the product rolls into stores nationwide.

The Critics’ Choice Movie Awards took place in Los Angeles last night, where some of our favorite celebrities opted for the most tried-and-true formal-event colors: Black and white. Charlize Theron chose form-fitting Azzedine Alaïa, Tilda Swinton picked two-tone Yves Saint Laurent, Michelle Williams went for one of her favorite labels in Chanel, and Kirsten Dunst wore a bow-decorated Christian Dior LBD. However, the carpet wasn’t entirely colorless. See what everyone else wore to the Critics’ Choice Movie Awards in the gallery now!

Anna Faris Is Happy About SNL’s Wardrobe Gifts

Nov 9, 2011 @ 5:45 pm

One perk of hosting Saturday Night Live? You get to keep the wardrobe! Funnygirl Anna Faris recycled the Cushnie et Ochs LBD she wore to host the show’s October 15th episode for the launch of Irene Neuwirth’s diamond collection in Los Angeles last night. “They give you the stuff you wear for the opening monologue and then to introduce the bands,” the actress and two-time SNL host told InStyle.com. “And they get gorgeous stuff. It’s kind of amazing.” There is one downside, however. “The only problem is that you’re so scared that it’s a toss-up of whether or not you are brave enough to go back for the clothes,” the actress joked. Yves Saint Laurent heels and Irene Neuwirth jewelry completed her look for the evening.

Remembering Loulou de la Falaise

Nov 7, 2011 @ 1:15 pm

Fashion figure Loulou de la Falaise—known for her effortlessly chic style as muse, collaborator, and friend of Yves Saint Laurent—passed away in France on Saturday at the age of 63. De la Falaise designed for YSL for three decades before launching her own line of clothes and accessories. “This was someone who had an eye of her own,” InStyle fashion director Hal Rubenstein says. “When looking at Loulou, you get a true understanding of what style is all about. It’s not that she just wore Saint Laurent. It’s that when she wore his clothes and ideas, they had another life. It never looked belabored, it never looked overt. It was always consistently her. She was a true muse—she was the realization of a designer’s imagination and creativity.” De la Falaise is survived by her husband and daughter.
