In case you didn’t hear: Color is in. And that applies for engagement rings, too—the latest jewelry trend that’s on the up and up. Ever since Prince William proposed with Princess Diana‘s famous 18-carat sapphire engagement ring that turned Kate Middleton into a Duchess, there’s been a growing demand for vibrant-colored stones (engagement ring e-retailer brilliance.com recently launched a new category dedicated solely to gemstone rings). From Olivia Wilde‘s emerald haloed rock to Jessica Simpson‘s 5-carat ruby, it’s clear that unconventional sparklers are having a moment. Click through to see 12 celebrities’ beaus who have shopped outside the box and scooped up engagement rings in unique settings, rare cuts and more.
When you’re in a serious relationship with someone, you tend to share a lot of things: the cost of rent, if you live together, dinners out, and even the occasional piece of clothing (okay, maybe that’s more of a one-way street). But when the time comes to take that next step, would you consider sharing the cost of your engagement ring?
According to the Today show, going dutch on an engagement ring is a burgeoning trend among some couples, who say that doing so helps them save money in the long run. “Today, because both the man and woman earn money and contribute to the financials and the decision-making, it’s not surprising that both of them are involved in all aspects [of choosing and paying for the ring],” professional matchmaker Samantha Daniels told Today.com. “I think it makes for a better connection between the two people.”
Of course, not everyone agrees. “Couples are splitting the cost of an engagement ring,” funny man Jimmy Fallon recently tweeted. “Because every girl dreams of hearing her man say, ‘You owe me $2,000.’”

Congratulations are in order for Zoe Saldana! The Star Trek into Darkness actress tied the knot to Italian soccer star and artist Marco Perego and it happened back in June. The news recently broke that Saldana secretly wed her beau—both 35-years-old—in a small, private ceremony outside of London surrounded by their family and friends. The couple reportedly have known each other for quite some time and started dating back in May. These quiet celebrity marriages are certainly becoming a trend, especially with the recently surprise nuptials of Scandal actress Kerry Washington and her now husband, San Francisco 49ers quarterback Nnamdi Asomugha back in July. And Kate Winslet’s intimate New York City marriage to Ned Rocknroll took a few weeks to leak out to the press in December of 2012. So tell us, what do you think of these Hollywood’s secret marriages?

Now that’s one way to get us excited for the upcoming season of Revenge! After watching the promo for the show’s third season above, so many questions ran through our minds. Who shot Emily Thorne? Will she bounce back, or is this the end? And most importantly — was that a wedding dress she had on? We were too eager to wait for the premiere on September 29 to find out, so we just had to call up costume designer Jill Ohanneson to get all the details on the dress. Her secret for finding the perfect one? Design it herself. “After hearing about what would happen, the dress required so many elements that I knew we weren’t going to find any one piece that would do everything we needed, and since we had three weeks of prep time at the beginning, I found the fabric, did three or four sketches, and designed it myself,” she told InStyle.com exclusively. “I know Emily likes very slim silhouettes, but I also knew the producers and directors wanted the fabric to float around her when she fell into the water. To make that happen, I started with a slim silhouette and built around it with tulle, since it’s lightweight and floats well.” The climax of the preview — i.e. where Emily gets shot — was another factor that pushed Ohanneson to personally design the dress, as multiple versions were needed. “To go out and buy four wedding dresses would have been too costly, especially to get something worthy of Emily Thorne’s taste,” she added. “We ended up making four gowns — we kept one perfect, we had to build one for a stunt girl, and we made two more that can take the blood hits. We saved the original since we’d have to shoot a wedding down the line.” Our minds are racing with the possibilities! Scroll down to see an exclusive sketch of the entire dress, then find out what happens on the season three premiere of Revenge, September 29 at 9 PM EST on ABC.

Put a Ring On It! Neil Lane Talks the Biggest Bridal Jewelry Trends, Plus His Collection for Kay JewelersAug 10, 2013 @ 1:00 pm
Neil Lane knows a thing or two about what makes women say “I do” — the designer is the unproclaimed king of bridal jewelry, and is responsible for the many lust-worthy sparklers we’ve seen adorning the lobes, necks, and wrists of the Hollywood elite. The past was Lane’s muse for his latest collection with Kay Jewelers, and the elements from the 1920s, Edwardian 1900s and late Victorian era were right in line with the vintage-inspired jewelry trends of today. ”I used old techniques, like polishing, adding detail, mill graining and engraving—they haven’t been used in bridal on a big level,” he told InStyle.com. ”To make something relevant, you need to go back to the past and make it relevant for the future, so I’m taking ‘vintage’ ideas and bringing them to today.” Lane noted that rose gold, stacking rings together and mixing metals were among the hottest bridal jewelry trends right now—all of which he has included in his designs (example: Desiree Hartsock’s sparkler on The Bachelorette). And although round and princess cuts are still the biggest in demand, emerald, oval, marquis and cushion cuts are swiftly rising through the ranks. “Now you don’t have to just love the guy, you can love your ring, too,” he joked. The Neil Lane x Kay Jewelers collection is available at kay.com and Kay Jewelers stores nationwide, ranging between $300 and $2,599 for non-bridal jewelry and between $2,600 and $7,499 for bridal. Earlier this week, we learned that The Voice judge Adam Levine, 34, proposed to Victoria’s Secret model Behati Prinsloo, 24, after dating for over a year. We only had to wait a few days for Prinsloo to debut her engagement ring—she showed off her vintage 1930s sparkler on Extra TV and told the show she was “very giddy” when the Maroon 5 frontman popped the question. “It’s still a little surreal!” she told InStyle.com at the launch of Victoria, the new fragrance by Victoria’s Secret. “I’m very happy, and I’m very happy everyone else is excited about it, too.” Now that you’ve seen the rock up close, tell us, what do you think?
