Watch Gwyneth Paltrow Hilariously Explain Her Scandalous Wardrobe Malfunction

Apr 26, 2013 @ 10:20 am

Gwyneth Paltrow, officially the world’s most beautiful woman, turned heads when she stepped onto the red carpet at the Iron Man 3 premiere this week in an Antonio Berardi dress with sheer vertical paneling along the sides exposing all her bits and pieces. Yesterday, she explained her controversial style choice on Ellen, where both she (in Proenza Schouler) and talk show host Ellen DeGeneres had giggle fits over Gwyneth’s admission that, because of the placement of the sheer fabric, she “kind of had a disaster.” No spoilers here—you’ll have to watch the clip above to find out just what nearly went wrong with Paltrow’s dress—but Gwyneth finishes the story by admitting, “I went from the most beautiful to the most humiliated in one day.” And this kind of look isn’t just for big movie stars anymore: Both Berardi’s original runway design (which is two-piece) and Paltrow’s full-length version will hit modaoperandi.com today at noon; the gown for $4,660 and the shorter skirt-top combo for $1,480 (skirt) and $1,580 (top). Watch the clip above and decide if Gwyneth’s risky style move is one you’d want to take.

In Case You Were Sleeping: Jay Leno Loves Emily Blunt’s InStyle Cover

InStyle’s May cover girl, Emily Blunt wore a colorblocked Victoria Beckham dress to make an appearance on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno last night, but all eyes were on another outfit when she took the stage—the metallic Burberry Prosum ensemble she wore on May’s InStyle cover! “I never notice women’s clothes, but I love this outfit!” Leno told the actress. “You do? I was worried it was a bit space-agey!” Blunt responded in jest. Scroll down to watch the clip, and then pick up your own issue—or download it to your iPad, Nook, or Droid tablet—on newsstands now. Video of the Day: Beyoncé Debuts New Song “Standing on the Sun” in H&M Video

Apr 25, 2013 @ 10:35 am

It might only be April, but in the world of Beyoncé and H&M, summer is in full effect. The singer just released her first ad for the brand’s summer campaign, and the island-set clip (watch it above!) features a brand new track from Mrs. Carter. The drum-driven love song, titled “Standing on the Sun,” is likely her latest sneak peek into her forthcoming album, a vastly different follow-up to her pounding, Houston hip-hop-infused single “Bow Down/I Been On.” And it makes a perfect soundtrack for H&M’s summer collection—think fringed string bikinis, tie-dye bandeaus with high-waisted bottoms, and beaded LBDs—which Bey models with ease as she dances in wind, sand, and sun. Check out the clip above—but you’ve been fairly warned: you may experience symptoms of summer fever! The treatment? Just press replay, of course.

Tribeca Film Festival Fashion Moment: The Director Documentary Stars Gucci’s Frida Giannini, and It’s a Must-See for Fashion Lovers

Apr 23, 2013 @ 5:00 pm

Over 100 films are being screened during the Tribeca Film Festival in New York this week, and this is the one we’d vote for if we were jurors: The Director: An Evolution in Three Acts. The documentary goes behind the normally-private world of Gucci creative director Frida Giannini’s design process to show her involvement in directing everything, from selecting final looks for runway shows to auditioning models (watch the trailer above). “For me, clothes are always first a way for people to be seductive,” Giannini reveals in the film. “I don’t think the power woman needs to be necessarily hard. You can be sweet and sensual, and feminine. I think that is the strongest part.” The film was produced by James Franco—who, coincidentally, also happens to be the face of Gucci’s men’s colognes—and was directed by by Franco’s one-time New York University classmate Christina Voros. Is your interest piqued? Scroll down to read six things that solidified our girl crush on Frida Giannini after watching the film. More

Just In: Beyonce’s New Pepsi Video Shows Off Her Most Iconic Looks Ever

Apr 4, 2013 @ 10:22 am

Beyoncé celebrated #ThrowbackThursday in a big way today! After teasing the world yesterday by releasing a 6-second video clip to preview a new project, the singer shared her first commercial for Pepsi this morning. Titled “Mirrors,” the one-minute clip shows Bey (in AllSaints’ Kyoto tee, which you can snag here for $68) surrounded by a circle of mirrors, at first struggling to pin down her new choreography. After taking a sip of an ice cold Pepsi, she’s given new life by looking in the mirror and seeing her reflection transformed into her “Bootylicious”-era self. Suddenly surrounded by images of her former selves, Bey gets inspired and starts busting out dance moves spanning her entire career (good to see you again, “Single Ladies” hand wave). “Embrace your past, but live for now,” the singer asserts before strutting across the stage. Amen, Bey! Watch the clip above, and check out a behind-the-scenes photo of her video shoot below.

Of course, the Star Trek into Darkness star shows off her luscious hair in a number of different styles in the clip (watch it above!), but that’s not the only accessory Saldana knows how to work. Decked out in designer brands like Dior, Gucci, and Givenchy by Ricardo Tisci, the actress shows she’s still got a few modeling tricks up her sleeve (she got her start posing for designers like Calvin Klein). “I like androgyny,” the star told InStyle of her preferred sense of fashion. “I don’t feel like myself when I’m looking pretty. But every now and then, maybe four or five times a year, I just want to be a girl and look like a cherry apple.” She certainly pulled out all the stops for our shoot; watch her strut her stuff above! Read the full exclusive interview and see more photos by picking up InStyle Hair, on newsstands—and downloadable for your tablets!—starting Friday, April 5.

Video of the Day: Lena Dunham’s Short Film for Designer Rachel Antonoff

Mar 29, 2013 @ 3:15 pm

Lena Dunham‘s Girls examines the complexities of friendship (and everything that comes with it), and now, she’s exploring those ideas in a different venue—fashion. The director created a four-minute short film entitled “Best Friends” for her designer pal Rachel Antonoff, and together, they enlisted their relatives and friends to help them out. Dunham’s sister Grace stars with writer Alice Gregory as buds who go through every aspect of life together, all the while wearing Antonoff’s new fall 2013 collection; Fun. guitarist Jack Antonoff, Rachel’s brother and Lena’s boyfriend, provided the soundtrack; and Adam Driver, Lena’s character Hannah’s kind-of boyfriend Adam on Girls, narrated. “They are definitely the people I most hang out with anyway, so it worked out,” Antonoff told InStyle.com at last night’s premiere of the short at the National Arts Club in New York, where friends of Girls attended, including Alex Karpovsky (Ray) and Audrey Gelman (Audrey). “Lena had the brilliant idea, and I fell in love with it. And it happened very naturally. Obviously, she’s brilliant and wonderful.” The shoot happened over two days in different areas of New York. “Somebody said it was like a sleepover camp that they wished would never end,” added Antonoff. “And it perfectly brings the collection to life.” For Dunham, it’s another way to represent the power of girlfriends on screen, too: “We hope it makes you reflect on your best friend,” Dunham told the crowd. Watch the wistful clip above.
