Throughout Sex and the City, Sarah Jessica Parker’s Carrie made Manolo Blahnik part of her daily lexicon, and now we get to see how her love affair with fancy footwear began. On tonight’s new episode of The Carrie Diaries, the young Carrie (AnnaSophia Robb) receives her first pair of Manolos, a scene so momentous, costume designer Eric Daman had to find just the right pair of shoes. His pick—a pointed-toe green lime green design embellished with gemstones. “I totally fell in love with the velvet and pearl,” Daman told InStyle.com of the heels. “They’re so ‘80s aspirational.” And in order to get them just right, he had to call in a special order. “We had to have Carrie’s first Manolos custom made in Italy to fit AnnaSophia Robb’s petite feet.” A shoe match made in heaven! Watch Carrie slip into her first pair of Manolos when The Carrie Diaries airs tonight at 8/7c on The CW.

The series premiere of the The Carrie Diaries airs tonight on The CW! A prequel to Sex and the City, the show follows a young Carrie Bradshaw (AnnaSophia Robb) as she navigates the trials and tribulations of being a young teen in Connecticut and—of course!—Manhattan in the 1980s. The Carrie Diaries starts off in the midst of tragedy, as Carrie copes with the recent loss of her mother. As she struggles to find her place once again, her father suggests she begin an internship in New York City. “I think these are human experiences that we all have at different times in our lives,” creator Candace Bushnell told InStyle.com of young Carrie. “I know it’s hard to imagine. Just because there wasn’t cell phones doesn’t mean people didn’t communicate!” Catch the start of a new Carrie Bradshaw era tonight at 8/7c on The CW.

If you already miss The CW’s Gossip Girl, you won’t have to wait much longer for the network to replace it with another salacious and fashionable show. Premiering January 14th is The Carrie Diaries, which follows a young Carrie Bradshaw (AnnaSophia Robb) pre-Sex-and-the-City, as she navigates both Manhattan and her hometown in suburban Connecticut in the ‘80s. And falling in line with Sex and the City’s fashion legacy (courtesy of costume designer Patricia Field), the show has Gossip Girl costume designer Eric Daman on hand to dress the young Carrie in all her pre-Manolo looks. (Daman gave InStyle.com this exclusive preview of Carrie’s fashion above!) “This is more of an independent film and we have to make everybody ‘80s-appropriate,” he told InStyle.com of his approach. “This New York is a much brighter kind of neon meets gritty.” Catch all the radical ‘80s fabulousness when The Carrie Diaries premeires January 14th on The CW at 8/7c.
