666 Park Avenue Halloween Episode: Rachael Taylor Covered in Pottery Barn Birds!

Oct 28, 2012 @ 12:00 pm

For “A Crowd of Demons,” 666 Park Avenue’s special Halloween episode, airing tonight at 10 p.m. EST on ABC, Rachael Taylor’s Jane Van Been dresses up as Tippi Hedren’s Melanie Daniels, the victim in one of Alfred Hitchcock’s most iconic films, The Birds. Her costume—a celadon green wool crepe dress with black birds wired and sewn into it—was the handmade creation of costume designer Caroline Duncan. “This is definitely the scariest episode we’ve made,” Duncan told InStyle.com. “It’s an homage to Hitchcock, the greatest horror filmmaker ever. And what’s happening with Rachel’s costume is very tongue-in-cheek—she’s been haunted by birds ever since she moved into the building.” The costume is the result fastening and readjusting the birds to sit just right on Rachael’s frame. “Once the dress was done, we played with a lot of styles and sizes of birds,” Duncan said. “The birds are actually lawn decorations from Pottery Barn! We spent a lot of time manipulating them; they all come in one shape, and we sort of tweaked the wings.” Fun fact: The bird on her wrist, Duncan told us, actually doubles as a handbag! Tune in tonight to see the amazing costume in action!

666 Park Avenue: What They’re Wearing (and Why!)

Oct 1, 2012 @ 1:43 pm

On last night’s series premiere of 666 Park Avenue, we got a preview of the show’s mysterious storylines and impressive Upper East Side fashion. The show’s stylist Caroline Duncan told InStyle.com she’s trying “to strike a balance between fashion and fear” for this supernatural show, especially for characters Jane Van Veen (Rachael Taylor) and Olivia Doran (Vanessa Williams). “Olivia has an artistic, avant-garde eye, so she gravitates towards prints,” Duncan said of the elegant Chinese motif dress she wore in the premiere. “She’s bold and brave and has had money her whole life, so she has exquisite taste.” As for Jane, expect a preppier, classic look, which is a stark contrast to the bright Alexander McQueen gown she wore in last night’s episode. “Olivia gifted Jane the red dress, so it’s very dramatic,” Duncan said. “Jane’s character wouldn’t have gravitated to something that strong because she’s not as showy. We’re trending toward a feminine, clean 1960s silhouette for Jane—think Audrey Hepburn and Jackie O—that’s our jumping point.” We can’t wait to see what’s coming up next week! Tell us: What did you think of the fashion last night?
