One of our favorite funny girls, Lena Dunham, is set to host Saturday Night Live for the first time tonight! While rehearsing for her upcoming gig, Dunham shared this photo on Instagram from the studio alongside SNL cast members Aidy Bryant, Sasheer Zamata, and Vanessa Bayer. ”Girl pile in Studio 8H,” the star captioned the image of the smiling ladies. The Girls creator is a self-proclaimed SNL superfan, and it seems like she can’t wait to host the show. ”Thank you for the SNL love. Dream come true,” Dunham tweeted of her hosting debut. Be sure to tune in tonight March 8 at 11:30 p.m. EST on NBC to watch the show—if the series of promos are any indication, you won’t want to miss it! Want more Lena Dunham? For true fashionistas, packing for Austin’s SXSW festival — where the main wardrobe staple is an oversized tee — can be a challenge. Game of Thrones‘ Gwendoline Christie came prepared for battle, not with a sword but with enough designer duds to cloth a small army.
Usually seen donning a coat of armor as Brienne of Tarth, the Londoner literally sparkled at HBO’s Game of Thrones Experience kick-off party in a red sequined dress by Joseph. The festival-only exhibit fills a large space in Austin’s Music Hall, and shows off costumes and props from the series, which begins its fourth season April 6. “It’s like being immersed into the world of Games of Thrones. I’m overwhelmed,” Christie tells us, looking around at all the paraphernalia.
And what can we expect of her character Brienne’s continuing adventures this season? “It’s going to be very exciting, indeed,” she teases.

Olivia Pope Debuts a Darker Wardrobe On Scandal Season 3, Episode 12: Get the Exclusive Scoop From Costume Designer Lyn PaoloMar 7, 2014 @ 8:58 pm
Luck was not on Olivia Pope’s (Kerry Washington) side during Thursday night’s new episode of Scandal. She struggles over her relationship with Fitz, her father is plotting against the administration, and Quinn (Katie Lowes) pulls a gun on her. Pope’s world seems to be crumbling right before her eyes and that’s reflected in the dark wardrobe she wears throughout the episode. “Nothing is going well for Olivia, and she doesn’t know who to trust anymore,” costume designer Lyn Paolo tells InStyle.com. “She is literally in the dark about a lot of things, so we kept her in darker colors.” Somber or not, Olivia Pope still knows how to rock a fitted jacket!
Mellie Grant (Bellamy Young), on the other hand, goes bold in this episode, wearing a blush Melinda Eng gown that pays homage to the Jackie Kennedy portrait hanging on the wall in one scene. “We weren’t sure if the audience would catch it!” Paolo says about the striking resemblance between the two First Ladies. “[The dress] has a similar construction and drape that Jackie’s did, but it’s a modern reinvention of it.”

It was all work and hardly any play for our favorite country music stars on this week’s all-new episode of Nashville. With Rayna James (Connie Britton) working on her label and Juliette Barnes (Hayden Panettiere) trying to decide where she wants to sign, the ladies kept it casual in low-key looks. “When they’re not doing something big, I don’t dress them up,” says costume designer Susie DeSanto, who chose to keep the stars’ outfits simple yet luxe.
This episode, she and Britton decided to go with dark hues for a still-troubled Rayna, as evidenced by the black-and-gray leopard Elie Tahari top she wore while spending time with new beau Luke Wheeler (Will Chase). “She’s still in this terrible place,” says DeSanto. “She just lost her father and is essentially severing ties with her sister, so she’s kind of in that mode of coming to terms with everything. There’s just a lot of heaviness.
But don’t worry Nashville fans! If you’re missing some of Rayna’s glitz and glam, you’re in luck: “We’re going to bust out a red Gucci dress next week!” We can’t wait! Until then, check out more of last night’s looks in our gallery.

How does New Girl costume designer Deb McGuire make sure she has the perfect dress for Jess (Zooey Deschanel) every week? She makes them herself. McGuire says she designed half of Jess’s wardrobe this season, including the pink cotton velvet dress she wore on this week’s episode. “The best thing about designing Jess’s wardrobe is that it gave us the flexibility to control the palette as well as options for ‘multiples’ that we often need!” McGuire tells InStyle.com exclusively. Allison Williams may play the unlucky in love character Marnie on HBO’s Girls, but it appears that in real life she couldn’t be happier. It was announced last week that Williams was set to wed her boyfriend, Ricky Van Veen, and now we’ve gotten a closer look at her dazzling engagement ring! The actress flashed her diamond sparkler for the first time at Sunday’s Vanity Fair Oscar party, making for a major red carpet moment.
Williams’ cushion-cut ring is seriously stunning—and massive—and appears to be flanked by multiple diamonds on each side. The classic rock suits her pretty style, and we think Van Veen made the perfect choice. The actress met her fiancé, who co-founded CollegeHumor, through mutual friends, and the pair have been together for three years. Given our love for her style, we can’t wait to see what the star will choose to wear when she walks down the aisle.

Scandal returned from its winter hiatus and we’re so happy to see Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington) back on the small screen! Thursday’s episode did not shy away from the drama, with VP Sally Langston announcing her plans to run against President Fitzgerald Grant in the coming election. Not only that, Mellie (Bellamy Young) and Olivia went head to head over Fitz in a lunchtime spat. Lucky for us, both ladies stunned, with Olivia in a white Prada coat and the First Lady in a bold red Escada dress.
“They’re like the red queen and the white queen,” costume designer, Lyn Paolo, told InStyle.com about their striking looks. “Olivia’s wearing her typical battle armor coat with chrome buttons because she knew she had to face Mellie.” For more details on this season’s fashion, look through the gallery. Also, be sure to tune in to Scandal every Thursday at 9pm on ABC!
Nashville Costume Designer Susie DeSanto Dishes on Juliette’s Grown Up Look from Last Night’s EpisodeFeb 27, 2014 @ 5:02 pm
After a three-week hiatus, Nashville returned last night with an all-new episode, and like always, there was plenty of juicy drama! Juliette’s (Hayden Panettiere) return to music was at the forefront of the episode, and the sophisticated and stylish outfit she wore to meet with powerhouse producer Howie V in Los Angeles demonstrated that she’s ready to shed her country girl image for good. “That whole look was obviously about showing that she can make the transition from country star to pop star,” costume designer Susie DeSanto tells InStyle.com exclusively. For that scene DeSanto dressed Juliette in a black blazer by Nonoo, a textured white blouse from Opening Ceremony, skinny Helmut Lang pants, and Chanel boots. “I liked the starkness of the black and white,” DeSanto continues. “It’s a classic way to dress a business person, but the cuts that she wears give it an edgy silhouette. It’s very fashionable.”
The creation of her new image went one step further when she agrees to participate in a photo shoot to accompany her new song “Don’t Put Dirt on My Grave Just Yet.” “The overall theme was that she was burying her country career,” DeSanto explains. To illustrate that, the makeup and costume department made Juliette almost unrecognizable, but DeSanto kept her stylishly dressed, outfitting her in an Emilio Pucci gown for the scene. However, the decision on whether to continue her transformation had to be put on hold when after she finds out that Rayna’s (Connie Britton) dad passed away from a heart attack.
With Rayna’s life becoming more and more complicated, and Juliette’s career path up in the air, one thing’s for sure: there is plenty drama in store. And while she can’t reveal what’s coming up next, DeSanto assures us that there’s some great episodes ahead!
