Happy 30th Birthday, Anna Paquin! Get Her True Blood Hairstyle

In honor of True Blood star Anna Paquin’s birthday—she turns 30 today!—we pulled a Sookie Stackhouse and “read the mind” of set hairstylist Dennis Parker to find out how to get her signature waves. To start, Parker preps the star’s strands by applying a volumizing mousse, followed by a generous spritz of White Sands Liquid Texture Firm Hold. “I spray the product on each individual section that I am about to curl,” he said. “It has incredible memory to provide long-lasting waves with a flexible hold and amazing shine, which is exactly what I need for long hours on set.” Parker then wraps each section around a large-barrel curling iron, and once the ringlets have cooled, he gently tousles the style to add extra volume. Star Anna Paquin squished in between Joe Manganiello and Alexander Skarsgård to chat about the show, as well as show off her growing baby bump (she’s expecting twins with real-life husband and co-star Stephen Moyer) in a gray patterned two-piece. True Blood is sinking its teeth into HSN! The HBO show teamed up with the retailer to launch Forsaken, a line of vampire-inspired beauty and home products starting August 9th. “Even into its fifth season, True Blood continues to be wildly popular in pop culture so we are always looking to provide new ways for fans to engage with the brand,” James Costos, HBO’s Vice President of Global Licensing, told InStyle.com. “We felt a fragrance line that was elegant, mysterious and sensual lent itself naturally to the themes of the show.” The Forsaken collection includes a fragrance (developed by mega-perfume company Givaudan), a body cream, a body veil, a DL & Co. candle (featuring a lid with a fang on it) and diffusers, nail polishes with vampy names like “Let It Bleed” (which is scented!) by Deborah Lippmann, as well as the celebrity manicurist’s first-ever lipstick, fittingly a blood red hue named “Bite Me.” “The collection taps into the essence of the show—romantic, dark, mysterious and extremely sexy,” added Betsy Olum, the General Manager of Beauty and Merchandising Strategy for HSN. We caught up with the cast at True Blood’s Hollwood premiere to ask: What’s the appeal of a supernatural love triangle? “People like having favorites,” Stephen Moyer (Bill Compton) told InStyle.com. “Everybody has their own idea of what they want it to be. True Blood star Alexander Skarsgård is taking a bite out of the fragrance world! The actor is the new face of Calvin Klein’s Encounter scent, appearing alongside model Lara Stone in the sultry new campaign, as seen above. “Their idea for their concept was very intriguing to me—it was almost like a short film, and very film noir,” Skarsgård told WWD. Encounter is a spicy blend of cardamom, rum, patchouli, and cedarwood, a mix that’s guaranteed to get your blood pumping, and will be available for $40 to $72 in stores come September. In the meantime, catch Skarsgård as Eric Northman on True Blood’s triumphant return, tonight at 9 p.m. EST on HBO.
