The Tribeca Film Festival Wrap-Up: See the Parties!

Apr 29, 2013 @ 4:15 pm

The 2013 Tribeca Film Festival has come to a close! Bryce Dallas Howard and Ari Graynor helped finish out the 11-day-long festivities by toasting to their peers at the Tribeca Film Festival’s Women’s Filmmaker Brunch, held at Company 3 in New York City. The event also marked the first time the Annual Nora Ephron Prize was given out, which is a $25,000 grant awarded to a woman whose work embodies the spirit of the late author. First-time writer and director Meera Menon took home the honor for her work on Farah Goes Bang, a film about an awkward twenty-something girl who travels with friends to stump John Kerry’s 2004 campaign. The Odeon restaurant in New York turned into a mini Chanel runway at the 8th Annual Chanel Artists Dinner, when guests including Alexa Chung and Mad Men‘s Kiernan Shipka wore straight-off-the-runway looks for their night out to celebrate the Tribeca Film Festival. “It’s fabulous to wear Chanel,” said 13-year-old Shipka, who chose look 24 from the label’s spring 2013 show. “It’s truly amazing.” Chung agreed: “It has so much history and class that the clothing feels like that,” she said. Though, wearing Chanel wasn’t a requirement for the evening, which was also shared by Uma Thurman, How I Met Your Mother star Josh Radnor, rising star Mickey Sumner, and the festival’s co-founder Robert DeNiro. Taraji P. Henson enjoyed the night—pinot noir in hand—in a vibrant blue design by Stella and Jamie. Click the photo to see more.

Tribeca Film Festival Fashion Moment: The Director Documentary Stars Gucci’s Frida Giannini, and It’s a Must-See for Fashion Lovers

Apr 23, 2013 @ 5:00 pm

Over 100 films are being screened during the Tribeca Film Festival in New York this week, and this is the one we’d vote for if we were jurors: The Director: An Evolution in Three Acts. The documentary goes behind the normally-private world of Gucci creative director Frida Giannini’s design process to show her involvement in directing everything, from selecting final looks for runway shows to auditioning models (watch the trailer above). “For me, clothes are always first a way for people to be seductive,” Giannini reveals in the film. “I don’t think the power woman needs to be necessarily hard. You can be sweet and sensual, and feminine. I think that is the strongest part.” The film was produced by James Franco—who, coincidentally, also happens to be the face of Gucci’s men’s colognes—and was directed by by Franco’s one-time New York University classmate Christina Voros. Is your interest piqued? Scroll down to read six things that solidified our girl crush on Frida Giannini after watching the film. More

How to Do a Matte Nude Lip Like Camilla Belle

Apr 29, 2012 @ 3:00 pm

At a brunch during the Tribeca Film Festival in New York City, Camilla Belle wore an understated nude lip. We love how the barely-there shade maintained a matte finish without making her lips look parched. The key to the perfect matte pucker is all in the prep. Exfoliate your lips and apply an ultra-hydrating balm before layering on your lipstick. And remember, not all lipsticks are created equal. Look for a soft, creamy matte that is easy to apply and easy on your lips. When it’s time to reapply, take everything off and start over so the product doesn’t get cakey.
