Happy Birthday, Shailene Woodley! The young star celebrates her 22nd year today, and we’re predicting it’s going to be one of her most memorable one’s to date thanks to her upcoming role as Tris Prior in the film adaptation of Veronica Roth’s wildly popular young adult novel, Divergent. And while this isn’t her first big role — she earned a Golden Globe nod starring opposite George Clooney in the Oscar-nominated film The Descendants – it’s her first major studio film in which she’ll play the lead. With Divergent landing in theaters in March, we have a feeling we’ll be seeing a lot more of Woodley, and we can’t wait. So in honor of what is sure to be a breakout year for the star, we’re taking a look back at her style evolution from newcomer to red carpet regular.

Claire Danes turns 34 today, and the Emmy-winning star of Showtime’s hit show Homeland (don’t pretend like you aren’t obsessed!) has spent more than half of those years in the public eye. She first hit the scene in a major way in 1994—at 15 years old—as Angela Chase in the cult-classic My So-Called Life, and just two years later she starred as one half of literature’s most famous star-crossed duo in Baz Luhrmann’s glittery, punk-driven modern re-make of Romeo + Juliet. Even as a young woman, she showed a mature approach to life. “Physical appearance is a huge part of our existence,” Danes told InStyle for our July 1999 issue. “You can’t totally deny or ignore it, but you can’t turn it into a measure of your self-worth.” Such wise words. Happy birthday, Claire!

Our favorite “Backwoods Barbie” has joined the world of blogging! Dolly Parton launched her official Tumblr last week, and we’re already inspired by the many quotes, GIFs, and vintage beauty photos among her posts. “I would never stoop so low as to be fashionable,” Parton once joked to InStyle on her trademark wardrobe. To celebrate, we’re taking a look back at the many hair and makeup choices she has sported—all of which are worth a reblog. See her transformation by clicking through the gallery.

Happy birthday, Mariah Carey! The singer has come a long way since her ’80s-era perm, and although she stays busy these days as an American Idol judge, perfumer extraordinaire, and mother to twins Moroccan and Monroe, she doesn’t let the rush get to her. “For so long, everything was a stress-fest,” the star told InStyle previously. “I used to think that that was the penance for success. Now, I’m just trying to enjoy my life.” We hear that! To celebrate Mimi’s 43rd birthday, take a look back at her many hair and makeup choices over the years in the gallery. Have a great birthday, “Honey“—we hope it’s every bit as fabulous as you are!
Happy birthday, Sarah Jessica Parker! Even before she became known for her impeccable style and fabulous taste in footwear (hello, Manolos!), she was always a Girl Who Just Wanted to Have Fun. So, to celebrate her 48th year on earth, we’re taking a look back at how the Sex and the City star transformed from teen actress to full-fledged style icon. “Every picture I see of myself from [the '80s] is pretty embarrassing,” the formerly big-haired star told InStyle. “But I find comfort in the fact that I looked like everyone else; I wasn’t alone in making those insane choices.” Click through the gallery to see her most memorable beauty moments.

“I know what I like and what I don’t like,” our April cover girl Zooey Deschanel told us for the new issue. And one thing she definitely likes is her always-adorable bangs. Turns out, it’s a look she’s been rocking for years—just check out this shot from her high school yearbook, showing off her then-wispy fringe that went on to become a full-on signature. Click through the gallery to see her complete beauty transformation (the 33-year-old sure has grown up!), and then be sure to pick up InStyle’s April Annual Color Issue—or download it to your iPad, Nook, or Droid tablet—starting Friday, March 15.
