Beyoncé opened her Mrs. Carter Show World Tour in Belgrade last night and debuted the most scandalous costume we’ve ever seen her wear: This crystal-encrusted bodysuit, inspired by the nude female form. Designed by costume specialists The Blonds (as seen in the sketch they provided above), the piece incorporated more than 30,000 hand-embroidered Swarovski crystals, and it took around 600 hours to create. “When Beyoncé’s creative director Ty Hunter first approached us about collaborating on the Mrs. Carter World Tour, we were ecstatic to say the least!” designer David Blond exclusively told InStyle.com. “The idea was to celebrate the female form, which is something we always strive to do with every collection.” His design partner Phillipe echoed: “Our original inspiration was the female nudes painted by Tamara de Lempicka and the idea of being covered in crystallized honey which provided the color palette. This is a couture piece for a legend, so there was no holding back and it was beyond what we had ever attempted before. We believe it is one of the most provocative and glamorous looks ever seen on the stage.” It is indeed! The Blonds Auction Off One-of-a-Kind Pink Barbie for MAC AIDS Fund!

Sep 12, 2012 @ 12:30 pm

The real star at The Blonds runway show last night in New York was the new Barbie the glamorous designers created (their second!) to support the MAC AIDS Fund. The all-pink doll, which is covered in tiny Swarovski crystals, is being auctioned off on charitybuzz.com through September 25. “She is special because she’s completely covered in Swarovski crystals,” designer David Blond told InStyle.com at the show. “And her shoes have these tiny, tiny crystals pavéd all over them.” Why did the platinum designers decide to collaborate with Mattel on the doll, who also (naturally) comes outfitted with a bright pink fur coat? “Working with Barbie seemed like the perfect partnership because she says, ‘You can be anything you want to be,” David said. David’s design partner Phillipe explained a bit more about the process of dressing the ultimate doll: “She borrowed my heels and my corset and my coat, and she’s looking dazzling as ever.” We agree! The Blonds: Dressing Jennifer Hudson Is ‘Emotional’

Feb 16, 2012 @ 5:40 pm

Jennifer Hudson’s stage outfits command attention—especially this little red number she wore to the VH1 Divas Celebrate Soul concert in December. The designers behind the look, The Blonds’ David and Phillipe Blond, were beyond thrilled to have the powerhouse singer in one of their designs. “That was just so, so magical,” Phillipe told InStyle.com at the label’s fall 2012 fashion show. “She was completely elated,” David noted. “Even during rehearsals we were really emotional because it’s the first time she’s worn such a revealing and fun costume onstage.” Phillipe added: “It was a really special moment. We all got really emotional.” Fashion can do that sometimes!
