Taylor Swift played off the bright strawberry color of her Elie Saab dress when she showed up to the Billboard Music Awards with cranberry eye shadow. Makeup artist Lorrie Turk said she created the look to evoke a timeless beauty with an edge, using CoverGirl products to apply the wine shade to Taylor’s lids, carefully winging out the corners for drama. Katy Perry matched her iridescent lilac Blumarine design to her plum highlights, Taylor Swift took home the event’s Woman of the Year award in a strawberry red lace Elie Saab gown, Carrie Underwood turned up the volume in a frothy slate blue and rose tulle Oscar de la Renta creation, and Miley Cyrus took the plunge in double-breasted Jean Paul Gaultier tuxedo mini dress. Rihanna, Taylor Swift, Abbie Cornish, and Brooklyn Decker all gave their manis the Midas touch when they stepped out with shimmering gold polish, a shade we love because of how it can look both edgy and elegant. Rihanna put a new spin on the French manicure by adding metallic tips to a chalk white nail; Swift and Cornish wore their lacquers with white dresses; and Decker matched her nails to the gold sleeves of her J. Mendel gown. As these stars prove, the shade looks stunning paired with outfits in light and dark colors alike—save for a blinged-out 24-karat ensemble, which would appear too busy.
