Tadashi Shoji Releases Octavia Spencer’s Gown for Brides

May 1, 2012 @ 10:41 am

After collaborating with Octavia Spencer on her awards season attire, designer Tadashi Shoji transformed the elegant lavender column The Help star wore to this year’s Golden Globes into a stunning wedding dress. “I decided to make the ‘Octavia’ gown in ivory for our new bridal collection after the positive response,” Shoji told InStyle.com of the Golden Globe Best Supporting Actress winner’s pastel number. “I love the way the soft draping envelops the figure while the jewel embellishment adds sparkle for a bride’s big day.” And every bride deserves her own red carpet moment! The gown will be available for Spring 2013.

Octavia Spencer’s Red Carpet Designer: ‘She Put on My Dress and Cried’

Feb 10, 2012 @ 11:00 am

Octavia Spencer’s go-to designer for awards season is Tadashi Shoji. The Help star has worn his creations to the Golden Globes and the Screen Actors Guild Awards, and the designer is thrilled. “She’s a genuine, nice person,” Shoji told InStyle.com at his fashion show in New York yesterday. “When I went there for a fitting and she put on my dress, she literally cried. I appreciate that she wore my dresses and she appreciated that I designed for her. It’s mutual admiration.” And her faithfulness to him is what he loves most. “She’s getting really well-known, but in the beginning she wore my dresses. Then, the much bigger designers came to say, ‘hi.’ But she’s loyal.” So, does this mean we’ll see the Best Supporting Actress nominee in one of his pieces at the upcoming Academy Awards? “That, I don’t know,” he said. “Surprise, surprise.” Here’s to hoping!

Tina Fey in a black gown by Tadashi ShojiMartha Plimpton in sparkling burgundy Zac PosenMelissa McCarthy in a custom-designed dress; Amy Poehler in shimmery blue Peter SomEdie Falco in a one-shoulder Randi Rahm design; and Laura Linney in a chic Celine LBD.

McCarthy ultimately took home the win. “Holy smokes,” she said as she took her statue. “Wow, it’s my first and best pageant ever.” After the show, Martha Plimpton admitted it was ultimately her and Poehler’s idea. “The whole point is that we should be up there celebrating each other,” Plimpton told InStyle.com. “If there’s no spontaneity and no fun, then what’s the point?” See what everyone wore on the 2011 Emmys red carpet in the gallery!
