Would You Wear a Crystal Snake Dress Like Jennifer Lopez and Emma Stone?

May 1, 2012 @ 11:40 am

This season, Lanvin released a copper and black color-block dress with one out-of-the-ordinary addition—a Swarovski crystal snake wrapped around the neck and winded down the left side of the body. It’s not often we see reptile replicas incorporated into designs in forms other than prints, and celebrities immediately gravitated to the distinctive look. Jennifer Lopez wore the serpent style in Montreal yesterday, and Emma Stone chose it for a Golden Globes party in January. The piece is available beyond the runway and the stars, too—luisaviaroma.com sells it for $7,835. So, what’s the appeal? It’s different, that’s for sure. And how often do we see something truly different? Tell us: Would you wear this dress? Let us know in the comments!

Exclusive Video: The Making of Evita’s New Broadway Costume

Apr 12, 2012 @ 3:00 pm

Evita is back on Broadway! The musical about the still-controversial former First Lady of Argentina—who Madonna once portrayed in the 1996 movie adaptationopened on the Great White Way last week. In this revival, there are two big moments the audience goes wild for: First, when Ricky Martin, who plays Che, the voice of the country’s working class, arrives on stage. And second, when Eva Peron, played by Elena Roger—the first Argentinean to assume the role on Broadway—steps out to sing the musical’s most powerful and memorable number, “Don’t Cry for Me Argentina.” (The truth is she never left them!) In the scene, Roger stands alone at a balcony, enveloped in a breathtaking white gown covered in more than 160,000 Swarovski crystals, an interpretation of a Christian Dior design the late political figure once wore. “It’s our goal that she will light up like a star in the night,” said Barry Doss, the associate costume designer of the production. And she does! Watch an exclusive first look at the making of this show-stopping design above. To see it in action, visit evitaonbroadway.com for tickets.

Plus, this isn’t the only famous revival! See stars portray Marilyn Monroe in the gallery.

She also chose two looks by The Blonds for her night out—a glimmering Swarovski crystal-covered gown and a red chainmail corset dress. Way to work it, Jennifer!

Swarovski Elements for Housing Works!

Dec 12, 2011 @ 2:02 pm

Swarovski Elements has asked 15 celebs and designers to re-create limited-edition Gaia+Gino vases using Swarovski crystals, with all the results being auctioned off online to benefit Housing Works The one-of-a-kind looks are all pretty incredible, though our favorite has got to be the design from Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, who donated their vase—dressed in a beaded collar jacket and tulle skirt—under their Elizabeth and James label.   Other celebs designing for the cause include Bethenny Frankel, Tinsley Mortimer, and Carson Kressley (who, to be fair has some real design chops).  Click through a gallery to see which vase you’d bid on!

Vases are available at shop.housingworks.org through December, 20th.

Check Out Rihanna’s New Tour Outfits

Jun 6, 2011 @ 4:15 pm

Rihanna is back on tour! The pop star kicked off her summer Loud tour in Baltimore this weekend, where she revealed some interesting new stage costumes. For her opening number, “Only Girl (In the World),” RiRi cinched on a metallic blue silk lame jacket by Jeremy Scott, only to reveal a bedazzled two-piece when she whipped it off. Tour costume designer Adam Selman custom-made the look, and worked with jewelry designer Tom Binns to paint some of the 800 Swarovski crystals on the outfit. See when Rihanna is coming through your town at RihannaTour.net, and nab seats on Ticketmaster.com. In the meantime, get a close-up shot of the looks in the gallery.
