Super Bowl Fashion: Nicki Minaj and M.I.A. Designers’ Surprising Reaction!

Feb 13, 2012 @ 4:10 pm

Over 111.35 million viewers tuned in to watch the Super Bowl last Sunday, but Erickson Beamon’s Karen Erickson and Vicki Beamon, who designed Nicki Minaj and M.I.A.‘s elaborate half-time show headpieces, had other things on their minds. We caught up with the duo at their fall 2012 presentation to ask them what it felt like to see their jewelry on the most-watched show in TV history, and they seemed surprisingly unfazed. “I was busy working on this,” Karen Erickson said, referring to Erickson Beamon’s new ready-to-wear line. “What I did I did, and now it’s about what I’m going to do.” Vicki Beamon had a slightly more excited reaction. “We kind of knew it was going to happen,” she told InStyle.com. “We had a really big year.”

Madonna’s Super Bowl Hairstyle: All the Details!

Feb 7, 2012 @ 1:00 pm

Still reeling from Madonna’s Super Bowl performance? We can’t get over how flawless the Material Girl’s hair stayed—during every pop, lock, and drop!—thanks to hairstylist, Andy LeCompte. “Madonna’s look demanded something fit for a queen,” LeCompte said. “We played with the tightness and looseness of the curls, as well as the amount of volume to see what would work best.” He started by blowing out the pop star’s hair, and then wrapped two-inch sections around a medium-barrel curling iron. He tousled and lifted strands slightly at the root to create volume. The secret weapon: A generous spritz of the Wella Professionals Stay Firm Finishing Spray ($15; wella.comkept her Madgesty’s curls in place in front of 111.35 million viewers, cartwheel after cartwheel.

What a show! Madonna scored big with her half-time show during last night’s Super Bowl XLVI in Indianapolis. Her 12-minute set—in which she dressed in head-to-toe Givenchy, Bulgari earrings, and a Philip Treacy headdress—included some of her biggest hits, like “Vogue,” “Music,” “Express Yourself,” mixed in with her new single, “Give Me All Your Luvin’” featuring cheerleaders M.I.A. and Nicki Minajand even a Material Girl-remix of “Party Rock Anthem” with LMFAO. For her finale, she performed “Like a Prayer,” joined by a choir and Cee Lo Green. “People say everything has a limit, but limits do not exist with Madonna,” said Givenchy Haute Couture designer Riccardo Tisci, who created all of her looks for the show. So, what did you think? Total touchdown?! (And, oh yeah, the Giants won.) See more amazing moments from Madonna’s Super Bowl half-time show in the gallery!
