Now in Stores: Jason Wu’s New Contemporary Line, Miss Wu

Jason Wu’s new contemporary line, Miss Wu, just landed in stores this week! Inspired by the mod fashion of the ‘60s, the line has a more relaxed downtown feel then his ready-to-wear collections. “The look is gamine and mischievous in the spirit of girls like Marianne Faithfull, but with a dressed up twist,” says Wu. “In the studio we were always asking, ‘what would Miss Wu do?’” Pieces ranges from $195 for a silk crepe blouse to $865 for a leather shift dress. The 2012 CFDA Fashion Fund Award Winner Is … Greg Chait of The Elder Statesman

The Council of Fashion Designers of America announced the recipients of its ninth annual CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Awards at a ceremony in New York last night. From the 10 finalists, designer Greg Chait (shown with Burberry Prorsum-clad Emma Stone) of five-year-old Los Angeles brand The Elder Statesman—known for its cashmere pieces, chunky casual sweaters, and plenty of stripes for men and women—won the top award, including a $300,000 grant to pursue his design goals. Jewelry designer Jennifer Meyer Maguire and shoe designer Tabitha Simmons each took home runners-up prizes, including $100,000 grants. Congrats to the big three! And don’t forget—starting in February, you can shop designs from all 10 finalists in a Nordstrom near you.

Nordstrom to Open Six CFDA Fashion Fund Pop-Up Shops in Stores Across the Country

As the underwriter of the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund since 2006, Nordstrom is expanding its support of the initiative, which annually selects a winner from 10 up-and-coming American designers to receive a $300,000 grant to pursue independent design work. The retailer will open six pop-up shop-in-shops across the country peddling the designs of all 10 finalists, including jewelry designer Jennifer Fisher and New York-based womenswear designer Wes Gordon. “We are proud to evolve our commitment to the future of American fashion by hosting CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund shops in our stores,” Jeffrey Kalinsky, Nordstrom executive vice president of design, said in a statement. “We think that our customers will be excited to have access to the collections from these talented designers.” The shops, which will live inside existing Nordstrom stores, will open in February in five locations: Seattle, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago, and Dallas, as well as the Nordstrom-owned charity boutique, treasure&bond, in New York City.

Jason Wu to Launch Lower-Priced Line at Nordstrom!

While Jason Wu’s designs ring up in the thousands, soon you’ll be able to score styles similar to those seen on the runway and the red carpet for $195 to $795. After launching a successful capsule collection at Target earlier this year, the celebrity-loved designer—Emily Blunt and Julianne Moore are among his fans—is back with a new Nordstrom contemporary line named Miss Wu, after his adorable owl logo. The 40-piece lineup was inspired by Sixties icons like Jane Birkin and Marianne Faithfull. “Those girls had that certain something-something that really felt right for the image of this girl,” he told WWD. The line will arrive at Nordstrom in January.
