What Stella McCartney Wore to Meet the Queen

Mar 27, 2013 @ 10:40 am

Does it get any better than this, Stella McCartney? Yesterday, the British designer was awarded Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (OBE)—an honor presented by Queen Elizabeth II herself!—due to her dedication and contributions to British fashion. After all, this is the woman to designed Great Britain’s uniforms for the London Olympics and dressed the Future Queen, Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge multiple times, so this recognition makes the royal family official fans. So, for her bout at Buckingham Palace, McCartney’s outfit represented her own talents—she chose a cobalt blue skirt-suit she designed as well as a headpiece hand-sewn by her milliner pal Philip Treacy, which consisted of two Cartier jewels and a veil she bought as a teen, WWD reports. Papa Paul must be so proud.

Plus, see Duchess Kate’s best looks. (She’s a big a Stella fan!)

Queen Elizabeth Names Stella McCartney an Officer of the British Empire

Jan 2, 2013 @ 10:20 am

Her Majesty the Queen has just released her annual New Year Honours list, and Stella McCartney landed one of the 71 spots in this year’s lineup! McCartney, who designed the U.K.’s uniforms for this summer’s Olympic games and was named Designer of the Year at the British Fashion Awards, has been named an Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire for her “services to fashion.” The honor is one of the five orders of chivalry originally created by King George V in 1917 and still in place to this day. And since we already know the Duchess of Cambridge is a fan—she wore the designer’s vivid cobalt sheath twice in 2012we can only predict the princess will show off more of McCartney’s fashion-forward designs (and perhaps even maternity styles) this year!

Beauty Goes Green on the Paris Runways

We are simply green with envy at the bold shades of jade, forest, and mint that have popped up on faces and nails at Paris Fashion Week. Celebrity makeup artist Pat McGrath kept things minimal at Stella McCartney, adding only a pop of color with Covergirl Queen Collection Vivid Impact Eye Liner in Jade ($7.50, covergirl.com) to the bottom waterline. Chanel took the trend upward with smoky pewter-mint lids and defined lashes, pairing the subtle hint of color with nude lips and pulled-back hair. At Kenzo, meanwhile, Manicurist Marian Newman painted nails in a myriad of MAC hues, including a pale shimmery jade, forest green, and bright mint. Want more runway inspiration? Runway Looks We Love: Stella McCartney

Oct 1, 2012 @ 2:55 pm

Stella McCartney’s spring 2013 collection managed to combine drama and understatement with shapes (exaggerated shoulders, sheer panels, and extreme drop-waists) as statement-making as the colors (tangerine, cobalt, and kelly green). A master of bridging masculine with feminine, McCartney gave her cool-girl suiting extra impact by contrasting slouchy slacks against nipped-waist jackets, while her peek-a-boo sheaths are sure be favorites on red carpets. The finishing touch: sleek accessories, including coordinated Lucite sandals and bags ranging from geometric minaudieres to boxy totes. Check out our favorite looks in the gallery!

First Look: Stella McCartney’s Lingerie Line

Aug 15, 2012 @ 3:00 pm

Stella McCartney just introduced “Stella,” a new line of lustworthy lingerie that’s both light in weight and light on the wallet. The collection features five bra shapes ranging from strapless to plunge and three bottoms, all made with lace, mesh, and satin fabrics meant to look invisible whether under a cocktail dress or a white T-shirt. The items also fall in line with the designer’s eco-friendly approach to design, as they are constructed entirely of recycled metal hardware and organic cotton. See our favorite styles in the gallery, and shop the collection—bras range from $55 to $65, while the underwear is $26 to $28—at net-a-porter.com and Stella McCartney stores this month.
