SAG Awards 2012 Beauty Trend: Pretty Ponytails!

Jan 30, 2012 @ 11:50 am

Who says ponytails have to be plain? Shailene Woodley, Jayma Mays, Sofia Vergara, and Diane Lane walked the 2012 SAG Awards red carpet last night in elegant, pretty pulled-back styles. Woodley and Lane opted for effortless low looks, while Mays and Vergara wore retro-inspired ‘dos with added volume at the crown. Ponytails are a carefree alternative to the traditional updo. To get the look, start with hair that has been blow-dried smooth, and fasten with an elastic. If you’re worried your hair will fall flat, give strands a blast of dry shampoo or volumizing spray at the root to create extra lift.

The Descendants star Shailene Woodley is a staple on the red carpet circuit this season, especially after her Golden Globes nod for Best Supporting Actress. And she’s learned quite a few things about posing, thanks to her stylist. “She says when you cross your legs, it looks like you’re trying really hard,” the 20-year-old told InStyle.com when we caught up with her over Golden Globes weekend. “But it’s comfortable because then I feel like I’m not going to fall. I cross my legs!” However, don’t call it her signature look. “I don’t have a stance,” she said. “I wing it every time. I never practice. I’m always the person who asks my publicist right before I do the carpet, ‘Oh shoot, how should I stand?’” So far, so good, Shailene!

Shailene Woodley’s Five-Finger Shoes: ‘My Favorite Flats Ever!’

Jan 17, 2012 @ 12:00 pm

After walking the Golden Globes red carpet in a Marchesa dress and Tabitha Simmons shoes, Best Supporting Actress nominee Shailene Woodley switched into something more relaxed for the InStyle/Warner Bros. after-party. “This is a super comfortable Stella McCartney dress, and I’m wearing my favorite flats ever,” the actress told InStyle.com, pointing to the five-finger Vibram shoes upon her feet. As for why she decided to change? “Who knows how many times I’ll be able to change into two different long dresses in one night, so why not!” Why not, indeed!

Shailene Woodley’s Surprising Hair Secrets

Dec 29, 2011 @ 12:00 pm

Shailene Woodley’s long, gorgeous strands are bound to be the subject of envy as she makes the rounds for awards season next month (she’s already a Golden Globe Best Supporting Actress nominee for her role in The Descendents). So what’s her secret? “My mom has awesome hair,” the 20-year-old told InStyle.com recently. “She’s 46, and doesn’t have any gray hairs on her head. I got really lucky. She passed me her good genes. I look up to her.” That means she also avoids any drastic hair changes. “I don’t use any products, I don’t own a brush, and I don’t believe in hair dye or anything artificial or toxic,” Woodley added. “I only get my hair cut twice a year!” Now that’s low maintenance!
