Spanx Turns 10! What Are Your Favorite Spanx Memories?

Oct 14, 2010 @ 2:05 pm

To celebrate the now-iconic shapewear brand Spanx hitting their 10-year mark today, we thought about having some birthday cake, then donning our favorite body-shaper to reign in the cake’s effect. Instead, we took a strictly by-the-numbers look at the undergarments that truly launched a fashion revolution.

1: Name-check in Sex and the City 2, by Miranda (Cynthia Nixon).

2: Sizes Andy (Anne Hathaway) appears to drop thanks to the brand’s Power Panties in The Devil Wears Prada.

3: Shout-outs in the pages of InStyle from celebs: Jessica Alba, Jenna Fisher and Molly Shannon.

8: Hours needed to produce a typical piece.

30: Phone calls per month, on average, from celebrities or their stylists requesting product.

5,000: Dollars of her own money founder Sara Blakely invested to start the company.

20,000+: Power Panties sold on the day Oprah announced that she’d “given up panties” and was solely wearing PP instead.

You can help Spanx celebrate their 10th birthday on Twitter. Share your favorite Spanx-related moments using the hash tag #HappyBirthdaySPANX and you’ll be eligible to win a Spanx Starter Kit valued at $900.

Bid on Samantha’s Noir Necklace from SATC2

Jul 13, 2010 @ 2:20 pm

One of our favorite moments from Sex in the City 2 was when Samantha (Kim Cattrall) ran into Miley Cyrus on the red carpet—and they were wearing the same dress. The main difference between the two women’s outfits? Samantha’s show-stopping  necklace. Noir has decided to auction off the one-of-a-kind piece; bidding will begin tomorrow at 9 a.m. EST (FYI: the link won’t work until then). The piece, which Noir says would ordinarily retail for around $1500, will start at just $250, and 100% of the proceeds from the sale will benefit the Maimonides Infants & Children’s Hospital. Click through our gallery to see the gorgeous necklace up close and personal!

SATC2 Scoop! Kim’s Haircut, Cynthia’s Skin

Jun 2, 2010 @ 1:20 pm

As expected, the ladies of SATC2 turned it out on the red carpets in the fashion department. But we were equally impressed by their varied hair and makeup looks, so we got the scoop from a few of the experts who have been creating them. “Kim Cattrall and I both love a change and wanted something fresh that would move and be doable for her in real life,” said her Sex and The City 2 hairstylist Ryan Trygstad, who was also responsible for the blunt bangs and bob the star debuted yesterday. “We looked to Katie Holmes and Christina Aguilera for inspiration.” As for Cynthia Nixon’s flawless skin, makeup artist Matin has been turning to two products throughout the press tour: Orlane Creme Royale Eye Contour, a luxe cream flecked with 24-kt gold which he uses to highlight her cheekbones, and Sampar Eye Rule, a cooling rollerball that refreshes the skin around the eyes with a blend of peptides. Keep up the good work, boys!

SATC Insiders Name Sweetest Memories

May 28, 2010 @ 2:12 pm

Our friends over at EW.com asked some of the creators and stars of mega-series Sex and The City to share some of their most unforgettable moments. Director Michael Patrick King recalled when the guys finally “got it”: ”One night, we were filming the scene where Carrie and Aidan are breaking up around that big fountain at Columbus Circle. And a garbage truck went by, and the guy hung off and said, ‘Hey, Carrie! Heeeeey! You’re my girlfriend!’ And that was when I realized it had gone past [just] the girls thinking ‘I’m Carrie.”’ As for Carrie herself, Sarah Jessica Parker remembered one of her favorite episodes. ”To this day, one of my most favorite scenes of the four of us… [is in ''Valley of the Twenty-Something Guys'']… starting off with two of us, then three of us, then four of us in a cab, picking each other up on the way somewhere, and how we dressed then and how we looked… I just loved that,” she said. Check out all ten of the insiders’ sweetest SATC memories now!

Shop Carrie & Big’s Apartment Style

We knew we’d be drooling over Carrie‘s wardrobe in SATC2, but after seeing the film yesterday it’s her and Big’s chic Manhattan apartment that left us filled with style envy. “I’ve been cheating on fashion with furniture,” Carrie says in the film and we think she’s got a keen eye for both! Each room combines Big’s sophisticated tastes with Carrie’s eclectic, color-loving style—the furniture boasts neutral tones and clean lines, while the accent pieces have a one-of-a-kind sensibility. We love the soft gray tufted armchair and florals pillows paired with stripes. Get a similar look with Room & Board’s wingbacked Louis chair, Paul Smith’s Birdie Blossom pillow and Crate & Barrel’s San Miguel pillow. Click on the gallery for more pics of their covetable apartment and tips on how you can get the style!

SJP Pays Tribute To McQueen At SATC2 Premiere

May 28, 2010 @ 10:22 am

For the London premiere of Sex and The City 2, Sarah Jessica Parker paid tribute to her good friend the late Alexander McQueen in a stunning silk and lace bustier gown from his Spring 2008 collection. The actress’s homage to the British design legend didn’t stop there: She paired the gown with a towering tulle headpiece by McQueen’s frequent collaborator Phillip Treacy and a black armband encrusted with Fred Leighton diamond clips as a sign of mourning. This is the second time a McQueen-Treacy combo has produced an unforgettable look for SJP. The star famously wore a lime green chiffon dress and butterfly-strewn hat by the duo to Sex and The City: The Movie‘s London premiere in 2008. Parker’s memorial to McQueen continues stateside on June 7th where she’ll present the CFDA’s Special Tribute Award in his honor.

SATC2 Premiere: Amazing Fashion!

May 25, 2010 @ 10:01 am

At last night’s premiere of Sex and the City 2 at Radio City Musical Hall in New York City, the only thing more exciting than seeing the new film was watching the live red carpet fashion show courtesy of our favorite foursome. Sarah Jessica Parker got cozy with the enthusiastic crowd, signing autographs and posing with fans in a bold fluorescent yellow Valentino Couture gown. Kristin Davis looked stunning in a bright pink Jean Desses vintage gown from Decades. Cynthia Nixon looked simply elegant in a black strapless Carolina Herrera gown, while Kim Cattrall opted for classic Hollywood glamour in a body-skimming gold gown by Naeem Khan. Check out our photo gallery for more gorgeous shots of the girls, plus see what other stylish stars wore to the premiere of the year!
