Our favorite looks this week—plucked from our Look of the Day section—were all about two of Spring’s biggest trends: black and white, and red. First, Jennifer Lawrence lit up the Golden Globes red carpet in a belted Dior Haute Couture gown, Jessica Alba went bold in a checkerboard Louis Vuitton sheath, Emmy Rossum chose a curve-hugging Andrew Gn sheath, Jessica Chastain wore a sleek Dolce & Gabbana ensemble, and Scarlett Johansson smoldered in Dolce & Gabbana and turquoise Irene Neuwirth earrings. So who do you think dressed best? Vote in the poll below! More

Scarlett Johansson unleashed her inner vixen for Dolce & Gabbana’s The One Desire fragrance, donning a metallic smoky eye that mirrors the flacon’s black and gold detail in new campaign shots for the label, seen here. Desire is the latest addition to Dolce & Gabbana’s The One collection, and draws upon the floral notes of the original, with the sexy twist of a caramel-infused vanilla and tuberose heart. You’ll see this picture a lot more come spring, when the fragrance launches in stores for $79 to $112.

Now this is one way to pump up the volume! Jessica Biel, Rihanna, and Scarlett Johansson each added a retro twist to their hairstyles by incorporating a mini-pompadour for recent appearances. Rihanna and Johansson opted for side-swept versions, while Biel’s finger-wave texture added a graphic edge. The extra height can dress up a familiar style like a bun or ponytail, and is a fun way to hide second-day strands. In fact, skipping a shampoo is recommended—clean, blown-out hair is too slippery to hold this style all day. To try this look, take out a section near the front of your head before securing your updo, and tease gently at the roots. Use a piece of unteased hair to hide the backcombing, and depending on your desired effect, secure the volume either at the side or top of your head. Voila!

Not everyone was at the VMAs last night: Kerry Washington, Scarlett Johansson, and Eva Longoria spoke last night prior to Barack Obama‘s big moment at the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, NC! How does a red-carpet regular dress for a political soiree? Washington wore a Bird dress and Roger Vivier’s Belle de Nuit pumps. Johansson dressed it down a little bit, opting for a patriotic American flag T-shirt, and Stella McCartney maroon slacks and blazer, while Longoria went for traditional democratic blue, with a gorgeous Victoria Beckham dress and Christian Louboutin heels. Tell us in the comments, which celebrity endorsement was your fave?
But if you caught any of the DNC’s speeches, you’ll know that the stand-outs were Michelle and Barack. If you’re a fan, try on their hairstyles below and post them to your Facebook wall to show your support:
