We first met Salma Hayek back in 1996 when she posed for our “What’s Sexy Now” feature, and we must admit, her sex appeal got hotter ever since. Fast forward to the cover shoot for InStyle‘s new July issue, where the 47-year-old Grown Ups 2 actress wowed the staff and crew not only with her sex appeal, but also with her sense of humor. In between takes, Hayek chatted with the crew (she playfully spoke Spanish slang with photographer Dusan Reljin), shared stories about her daughter, Valentina (can you believe she’s 5 already?), and made everyone laugh. “She’s sexy and hilarious,” said makeup artist Mary Phillips, who, along with hairstylist Robert Veticia, created Hayek’s beauty looks. Click to get a behind-the-scenes look at the cover shoot, and be sure to pick up the new InStyle, on newsstands and available for download to your tablet starting Friday, June 14.

Salma Hayek July 2013 Cover Girl Dusan Reljin

Salma Hayek is InStyle’s July cover girl! At 47, she has done pretty much everything she set out to do. She’s an actress (catch her in Grown Ups 2 this summer) and a producer, a devoted wife to French billionaire fashion mogul Francois-Henri Pinault, and doting mother to 5-year-old Valentina. And when it comes to social injustices, there’s no stopping her—she helped kick off Chime for Change, a campaign founded by Gucci that promotes the empowerment of girls and women around the world. In her exclusive interview with InStyle, Hayek admits she is still finding her way—and herself. Scroll down to find out three things you’ll learn in the issue. To read the full story, pick up the new InStyle, on newsstands and available for download to your tablet starting Friday, June 14.

Editor’s Note: The following is excerpted from the Salma Hayek cover story, “She’s Only Just Begun” by Mike Sager, which originally appears in InStyle’s July 2013 issue.

1. HER REAL THOUGHTS ON DRESSING OVER 40

“I’m not really a fashionista. I have an eye; I can pull it together, but a lot of the effort I make is for my husband because I want him to be attracted to me,” she said. She likes to pick strapless looks because: “When I turned 40, I started thinking, This is the last year, whenever I’d wear a strapless dress. I always thought you can’t wear them after a certain age, but I’m still getting away with it!”  More

Why Salma Hayek Celebrates International Women’s Day

Mar 8, 2013 @ 12:45 pm

In honor of International Women’s DayAvon Ambassador Salma Hayek helped recognize campaigns that have spoken out against women’s violence around the world at the 2nd Annual Avon Communications Awards, held at the United Nations in New York City. Hayek is also raising awareness for the cause by wearing Avon’s new Empowerment Charm Necklace—a $5 piece available at avon.com—and all profits go to support Avon’s domestic abuse awareness programs. “It has an infinity symbol in it to remind you of the infinite potential you have as a woman,” the actress told InStyle.com. “When you live a life free of violence, and even if there is violence in your life, you have to remember that you have infinite potential.”

Salma Hayek’s New Favorite Accessory: A $5 Necklace That Supports Domestic Abuse Awareness Programs

Mar 7, 2013 @ 2:40 pm

Salma Hayek teamed up with Avon almost 10 years ago to speak out against domestic abuse—and this year, this is the necklace that’s helping her spread the word. The piece is Avon’s latest Empowerment Charm Necklace, which only costs $5 and comes with a resource pamphlet. “This necklace works two ways,” the actress told InStyle.com (while wearing the charm) before presenting the 2nd Avon Global Communication Awards at the United Nations this afternoon, which honored campaigns that have spoken out against women’s violence around the world and served as an early celebration of tomorrow’s International Women’s Day. “By buying it or wearing it, you help the cause, but it also has the infinity symbol on [the charm] to remind you of the infinite potential you have as a woman—especially when we stick together.” All profits from the necklace support Avon’s awareness programs; visit avon.com to pick up yours today.

Gucci continues its long history of supporting women’s rights (following a seven-year partnership with UNICEF to fund women’s education) with the launch of Chime for Change, the brand’s new global campaign to raise awareness for female empowerment founded by Gucci’s creative director Frida Giannini, Beyoncé, and Salma Hayek Pinault. “I am proud to be joining the growing international movement on behalf of girls and women around the world,” said Hayek Pinault, who attended the TEDxWomen luncheon yesterday in Long Beach to officially launch the foundation, along with supporter Jada Pinkett Smith. ”I believe that by working together, we can change the course of history to ensure that girls and women are empowered to realize their potential and thrive.” The organization, which will have a T-shirt up for grabs to benefit the cause (modeled in the above right photo by Giannini), has a catch phrase that says it all: “None of us can move forward if half of us are held back.” Visit chimeforchange.org/join-in to get involved.

Oscars 2013: The Best Beauty Looks, Including the Nude Lip!

Feb 25, 2013 @ 12:18 pm

We’re still reeling from all of the glamorous ensembles from last night’s Oscars, and nude glosses and lipsticks were the big winners in the beauty department! Stars like Halle Berry, Jennifer Lawrence, Salma Hayek, and Naomi Watts traded statement-making red carpet hues for subdued, flesh-toned lips. The look balanced the strong eye shadows worn by Berry, Lawrence, and Hayek, while adding a delicate touch to Watts’ shimmery makeup. “We went for a soft rose that mimics Naomi’s natural lip color,” said Watts’ makeup artist Pati Dubroff, who used Chanel’s Rouge Coco Lip Color in Mademoiselle ($34; chanel.com). “My inspiration for her look was all about strength, unabashed glamour and polish, with a good dose of femininity.” We love it! Click through our gallery to see the rest of the looks we loved, along with tips from the pros who created each look.
