Rihanna’s “Where Have You Been” Makeup: All the Details

May 4, 2012 @ 5:45 pm

Rihanna’s new music video for “Where Have You Been” debuted this week, and the pop star experimented with some bold beauty looks for the clip. The person behind her tribal-inspired style is star makeup artist Kabuki, who recently honed his music video makeup skills on the set of “E.T.” by Katy Perry. “I wanted to feel the heat of that environment,” Kabuki told InStyle.com of the jungle setting Rihanna created for the video. “I used golds and coppers and reds to keep that feeling. I wanted to give Rihanna’s look a slight tribal nod while keeping things young and sexy.” And that’s not all! Click through the gallery for more behind-the-scenes makeup details from Kabuki.

Shop the Look: Rihanna’s Sexy Fringed Bikinis

May 1, 2012 @ 12:20 pm

Rihanna has had a busy week! After releasing the music video for her new single, “Where Have You Been,” the pop star jetted off to Hawaii,  where she chose to unwind in two sexy fringed bikinis. She worked a L*SPace black “Dolly”  bandeau top ($68 at amazon.com) with matching “Monique” bottoms ($68 at freepeople.com) while splashing around in the Hawaiian waves, and later changed into Acacia’s tie dye “Montauk” style ($184 at butterfliesandbikinis.com), switching out the bikini’s bottoms for the brand’s crocheted “Seminyak” pair ($96 at sirenecollection.com). Trend to Try: Gold Eye Shadow

Apr 25, 2012 @ 12:30 pm

Add a luxe touch to your beauty routine and sweep on a rich, gilded shadow like Emily Blunt, Amber Heard, Rihanna, and Kate Mara. This metallic hue warms up all skin tones, and can be worn a variety of ways. Blunt and Mara kept their looks subtle, pairing antique gold shadow with a natural lip. Heard channeled her inner pin-up girl, with pale platinum eye makeup, strong brows, and a crimson pout, while Rihanna went for a 24-karat bronze goddess effect. The gilded age of shadows isn’t limited to just one hue. Get flirty with a warm rose gold, or line your eyes with a sultry weathered shade. Be sure to use an eye primer to give your solid gold look extra staying power. A shade this rich should last all day long!

Trend to Try: Midi Rings

Apr 24, 2012 @ 3:15 pm

Spotted on edgy stars such as Rihanna, these tiny trinkets—also known as memory or tea rings—are supposed to be worn at the top of any finger. “I pair one with a large cocktail ring or my middle finger,” jeweler Jennifer Fisher told InStyle. “It makes for a funky contrast.” Click through the gallery to see a few of our favorites. Tell us: Would you wear a mini midi?

4 Ways to Wear Gold Nail Polish

RihannaTaylor SwiftAbbie Cornish, and Brooklyn Decker all gave their manis the Midas touch when they stepped out with shimmering gold polish, a shade we love because of how it can look both edgy and elegant. Rihanna put a new spin on the French manicure by adding metallic tips to a chalk white nail; Swift and Cornish wore their lacquers with white dresses; and Decker matched her nails to the gold sleeves of her J. Mendel gown. As these stars prove, the shade looks stunning paired with outfits in light and dark colors alike—save for a blinged-out 24-karat ensemble, which would appear too busy. Thanks to the black and white details on Decker’s dress, the result wasn’t too matchy-matchy. See more great celebrity-inspired nail polish ideas in the gallery.

Apr 2, 2012 @ 2:30 pm

Ever the hair chameleon, Rihanna changed up her ‘do again! The just-blond star stepped out in dark strands with a shaved side at the Battleship press conference in Japan. (Officially, that makes three dramatic color changes—chestnut to blond to dark sable—in 2012 thus far.) RiRi isn’t the only one to sport this crop—Milla Jovovich unveiled her asymmetrical undercut at an event last week! We want to know: Do you like her new hair? Tell us in the comments!
