Not only did Olivia Wilde‘s Gucci number from the Los Angeles premiere of The Incredible Burt Wonderstone win our Look of the Day, but her smoldering purple shadow is giving us serious makeup inspiration, which is why we chatted with her makeup artist Melanie Inglessis to get all the details. “We decided to do something a little edgy to make the look more rock and roll,” she told InStyle.com. “I saw a lot of metallic burgundy makeup on the runway, so we added that color to keep her makeup current.” Inglessis smoothed on a primer to start, then traced Wilde’s top and bottom lash lines with Revlon‘s ColorStay Eyeliner in Black ($7; ulta.com). She followed with the Smoky Shadow Stick in Torch ($9; ulta.com), using the darker hue to fill in the star’s lids. Picking up the deep burgundy from Revlon’s Eye Shadow Quad in Precocious ($8; ulta.com), she blended the color on top of the cream shadow, and into Wilde’s crease. “Keep your makeup below your lid,” Inglessis added. “Don’t take the smoky eye all the way to your brow bone or too far out—just define the natural shape of your eye.”

Olivia Wilde can add the title of hairstylist to her already-impressive resume! In October, the star shifted from her ombre highlights to a deep brunette hue, and it turns out, the change was a DIY job. The star darkened her strands for a role using Revlon’s Colorsilk Buttercream hair color in Medium Brown, and loved her new hue so much, she kept it for the product’s campaign commercial, the beauty brand told InStyle.com. Emma Stone said she picks her makeup looks “from whatever it is I’m wearing” and last night she paired her black-and-white ensemble with a fresh-faced glow and sexy, tousled updo to accept the first-ever Trailblazer honor at the 2012 MTV Movie Awards. “We wanted her look to be fun and flirty, like she’s been on summer vacation for a while,” her makeup artist Rachel Goodwin told InStyle.com exclusively. “So, I really focused on her skin and then added a great pop of color with the coral lip.” Goodwin also noted the mood was lively and fun before the show, as they prepped jamming to The Beatles and Florence and The Machine. “We’re a really tight-knit group and it has been that way for a long time so these are moments that we definitely enjoy,” said Goodwin. “It’s a great collaborative effort. It shows on Emma—she feels great and knows we all care so much.” Get the full beauty breakdown in the gallery.
