How to Maintain Your Blond Hair Color Like Anne Hathaway and Demi Lovato

Just when we thought auburn was the must-have hue this season, celebrities like Anne Hathaway, Drew Barrymore, Reese Witherspoon, and Demi Lovato changed the game by unveiling sunny blonde makeovers. After a brief stint as a brunette, Witherspoon returned to her famous golden highlights, joining Barrymore, Hathaway, and Lovato in the trend. If you’re considering doing the same, be sure to load up on the deep conditioner afterwards to minimize damage. Brassy tones are the sworn enemy of blonde hair, so to prevent any shifts in shade, incorporate a blue or purple-tinted shampoo and conditioner into your routine. The cool pigments neutralize unexpected orange or yellow shades, and keep your highlights going strong until your next salon appointment. Our favorites are Clairol’s Shimmer Lights ($9; sallybeauty.com), Sachajuan’s Silver Shampoo ($28; sephora.com), and Rita Hazan’s Foaming Color Gloss ($26; ritahazan.com).

How to Change Your Look for Your New Hair Color: Tips from Reese Witherspoon’s Stylist

Apr 9, 2013 @ 4:45 pm

Reese Witherspoon‘s hair color from blonde to brunette is having a ripple effect—not only does it effect how she treats her hair daily, it also effects how she dresses, something her stylist Leslie Fremar confirmed today. “With Reese’s hair, she did this for a movie, she’s an actress and more of a chameleon than the average woman,” Fremar told InStyle.com this morning in New York at T.J. Maxx’s discussion on self-expression through fashion. “If it feels right to dye your hair a different color or cut it off, you will learn to dress in that mood of whatever made you do that in your life. You have to understand that and then kind of go with it,” she added, noting that she chooses different looks to flatter her clients’ hair hues. Her tip: “Sometimes with shorter hair, you need to wear a little bit more makeup,” she said. “Or, with darker hair, you might feel like your skin color changes, so you need to change the colors that you use.” Good to know!

How to Go Brunette Like Reese Witherspoon: Tips From Her Colorist

Apr 3, 2013 @ 5:45 pm

Reese Witherspoon surprised us this week by swapping her Legally Blonde hue for a darker tone, so we caught up with her colorist Lorri Goddard to get the full scoop. The real reason why she switched? Witherspoon’s new role in The Good Lie. “This rich brunette works with Reese’s coloring because it has movement and different layers of warmth and depth that show off her naturally beautiful skin and eye color,” she told InStyle.com. If you’re inspired to make a similar change, Goddard recommends looking for a few brunette shades you like before you head to the salon so you can bring examples to show your hairstylist. “It is important to find some visual images of brunette colors you naturally gravitate towards,” she said. “Ask your colorist to review the depth and tone with you to establish which colors work best with your eyes and skin.” After you shift shades, incorporate color-preserving shampoos and conditioners into your routine to keep your hair from fading.

Do You Like Reese Witherspoon’s New Brown Hair Color?

Apr 1, 2013 @ 5:20 pm

Reese Witherspoon has gone brunette! The star, who made serious waves at the Oscars with her perfectly-styled ringlets, debuted her new hue in Nashville over the weekend with her family. Witherspoon has worked her Legally Blonde highlights for years—the last time she crossed over to the dark side was in 2005 to play the role of June Carter-Cash, wife of country icon Johnny Cash. “My hair was dyed dark brown for Walk the Line,” she told InStyle previously. “It was a very sophisticated style for me.” We think it looks just as chic the second time around!
