Holiday Party Hairstyle Idea: Ralph Lauren’s Elegant Twist

Dec 22, 2012 @ 9:00 am

Forget the messy bun, this season’s coveted updo is an elegant twist at the nape of the neck. Opt for a center part to keep the look clean and fuss-free. Hairstylist Guido Palau, who created the look at Ralph Lauren shown here, says the key is to build in the sheen by doubling up on products. Use a styling lotion like Redken Statinwear 02 Prepping Blow-Dry Lotion, ($18; redken.com for salons) before blow-drying hair straight, then spritz a shine spray on the updo before misting on hairspray. Fun Fact: The Allstate “Mayhem” Guy Only Wears Ralph Lauren Suits

Dean Winters may cause trouble on TV as the funny, viral star of Allstate’s “Mayhem” campaign, but there is nothing troublesome about his wardrobe for the spots—he wears Ralph Lauren in each and every one of his over-the-top, high-risk scenarios! “We got lucky enough to have Aude Bronson-Howard be our wardrobe person, and she’s worked with Robert DeNiro,” the actor revealed to InStyle.com at last night’s Museum of Modern Art’s Fifth Annual Film Benefit honoring Quentin Tarantino in New York City. “She went to Ralph Lauren and got us 15 suits!” The actor, who has also guest starred on Law & Order: SVU and 30 Rock, even took one of the pinstripe designs from the set for last night’s Jaeger-LeCoultre-sponsored event (above center). “They actually made it for me for one of the Mayhem commercials, and I just held onto it,” he said. “I’ve never worn this in a commercial. [But I wore it because] it’s the only one I have, and it’s gangster. And I think it kind of fits the night, for Quentin.”

Ralph Lauren Launches RL Vintage Shopping Site

Nov 16, 2012 @ 2:30 pm

Ralph Lauren has just launched a new online shopping destination. The site, RL Vintage, subscribes to Lauren’s design philosophy, which is rooted in his fondness for history. “I have always loved things that are timeless and get better with age,” Lauren wrote in the foreword to the RL Vintage e-book. Each season Lauren will choose items from his deep design archives and curate a themed collection. The current offering showcases western-inspired vintage pieces like patterned wool riding coats and fringed jackets. We’re hoping next season’s collection will include the tall brown leather lace-up Ralph Lauren boots that Molly Ringwald wore in classic ’80s movie, The Breakfast Club. (Is it too early to start campaigning?) Hurry over to RLvintage.com before everything sells out—the fashion is flying!

For evening, Lauren went for full on glamour. The gowns, in ivory, black, and red, each featured standout details like a single rose applique or layered strands of beads.
