Exclusive The Good Wife Fashion Details: Season 4, Episode 19

Apr 1, 2013 @ 3:00 pm

A new episode of The Good Wife premiered last night, and it proved just how much your fashion can reflect your personality—especially within the context of characters on a TV show. Case in point: Julianna Margulies’s lawyer character Alicia Florrick (shown in Prada) was the complete opposite of guest star Morena Baccarin’s sex-crazed and money-hungry Isobel Swift (shown in Alexander McQueen). “We were trying to exude sex with Isobel and her clothes, and we don’t do that with Alicia,” costume designer Daniel Lawson told InStyle.com. In fact, this season, he’s making Alicia look more professional and buttoned-up than ever. “She’s been doing more ensembles this season, which gives a nod to her making partner and making more money,” Lawson explained. “That means looking more put together than previous seasons. If I tried to pull pieces for her from the first or second season, it’s impossible—she’s just such a different character.” Get all the exclusive details the looks he picked last night the gallery, and follow Lawson on Twitter @GoodWifeFashion for the latest updates.

Catherine, the Duchess of Cambridge has so many events coming up on her social calendar—a baby on the way isn’t stopping her!—and that means we can expect to see her in some new (covetable) clothes, too. So, we’re doing some style prep for the Princess, picking out a look we’d like to see her wear for her next appearance. On deck: Easter Sunday. Here’s what we’d love to see her in at a church service—for Kate, RepliKates, and beyond.

INSPIRATION
The ivory lace Alexander McQueen dress she wore to St. Paul’s Cathedral in honor of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee in 2012.

PICKS
With her bump becoming more prominent, MaxMara‘s dusty yellow design ($2,046 at matchesfashion.com), features a silk chiffon and a floral lace bodice for a looser fit, without sacrificing elegance. To top it off, add a sculptural fascinator from Philip Treacy London ($847 at lovehats.com), a neutral box clutch by Expressions NYC ($48 at nordstrom.com), as well as a few pieces from her favorite shops, like Links of London pearl drop earrings ($590 at linksoflondon.com), and her go-to nude L.K. Bennett pumps ($345 at shopbop.com).

Revenge is back tonight! And (spoiler alert!) someone close to Emily (Emily VanCamp) has been killed—not that such an incident will stop her from attending the funeral looking anything less than polished. Because even with all the twists and turns on the Sunday night soap, one thing is constant: Emily, Victoria (Madeleine Stowe), and all the other Hamptons ladies look good. That’s why we caught up with the woman behind their best looks, costume designer Jill Ohanneson, who shared with us her all-time favorite pieces she put on the girls, from Emily’s red-hot Alexander McQueen to Ashley’s (Ashley Madekwe) goddess Balenciaga, to Charlotte’s (Christa B. Allen) sweet Anthropologie find. “There are so many that I love! I have the best job in the world,” Ohanneson told InStyle.com. Can’t say we disagree! Click through to see them all, plus her insider scoop on what makes each look so special. And tune into ABC at 9/8c to see how Emily & Co. work their mourning LBDs for [------]‘s final farewell.

Amen, Alexander McQueen! The New Collection Is 10 Looks Inspired by Church Garments

Mar 7, 2013 @ 11:54 am

Alexander McQueen merged fashion and religion for the fall 2013 collection at Paris Fashion Week, presenting a lineup inspired by the ecclesiastical wardrobe usually seen in the Church. The collection featured only 10 looks—a smaller number than usual because creative director Sarah Burton is on maternity leave—and each took a cue “from communion gowns to cardinals’ robes, the high church, nuns, popes, angels,” as the label described. The resulting designs included hoop skirts with caging and corsetry, exaggerated waistlines, and “hyperworked embellishment,” meaning detail within detail within detail, much like how the garments of the Church contain meaning with every stitch. The accessories and add-ons also paid extra attention to the little things, as seen on rhombus-covered stockings, pearl-studded gloves and footwear, and the embellished ruffs that covered each face. The timing of this collection’s debut is also a stunning fit—the highest member of the Catholic Church, Pope Benedict XVI, made his exit just days prior. Click through the gallery to see all 10 looks, and watch them move in the video above.  More
