Runway Look of the Day: Dries Van Noten

Sep 30, 2010 @ 1:13 pm

The Dries van Noten show was to die for! One of my favorite looks was a pale lilac coat over a sheer peach blouse with ombre wide-leg jeans. The subtle pastels combined with the sporty silhouette was gorgeous and wearable. I loved the entire show, which combined mannish elements, like crisp white shirts and oversize tuxedo jackets with softer, more feminine pieces like floral silk shorts and embellished pants.

“And God Created Women” announced the program for Marc Jacob’s Fall 2010 show for Louis Vuitton, where iconic supermodels and voluptuous Victoria’s Secret Angels paraded retro sexy clothes around the courtyard fountain at the Louvre. Laetitia Casta opened the show in a full-skirted ’50s dress with decolletage aplenty, followed by Karolina Kurkova, Adriana Lima, Alessandra Ambrosio and Bar Refaeli in ladylike looks, like petticoats, waist-cinching tweeds and innocent floral frocks. For the finale, Elle Macpherson debuted a glamorous blush-colored gown with corseted bustier, which looked amazing on her hourglass figure. Thank you Marc Jacobs for proving that clothes really do look best on women with curves!

Fall Trend To Try Now: Minimalism

Mar 10, 2010 @ 4:59 pm

Minimalism is back in all its pared down, stripped back glory! For fall, everyone from Stella McCartney (near left) to Yves Saint Laurent (far left) is showing sleeker, simpler and chicer! For maximum effect with minimum effort, opt for slim, cropped black pants paired with a crisp, bright white shirt. Add standout accessories for a combo that is anything but boring.

See Alexander McQueen’s Final Collection

The last collection designed by Lee Alexander McQueen debuted during Paris Fashion Week today with a presentation that paid solemn tribute to the late designer. Mohawked models draped in each of the 16 looks slowly marched across a gilded salon—a perfect backdrop for the ornate, Byzantine-inspired collection. For Fall 2010, McQueen showcased his forward-thinking vision and technical mastery by weaving digitally captured works of art into his fabrics and transforming the most intricately embroidered brocade into a wearable pouf dress. The final words in the show’s notes summed the collection best: “Each piece was unique, as was he.”

Lindsay Lohan No Longer Designing for Ungaro

Mar 9, 2010 @ 2:07 pm

Lindsay Lohan is making the rounds during Paris Fashion Week, taking in the Fall 2010 collections from designers including Kenzo, Viktor & Rolf and John Galliano. But there was one show where she was noticeably absent—Emanuel Ungaro. Just last year, La Lohan was named artistic director of the Paris-based fashion house. When asked why she did not attend Ungaro, Lohan responded, “Because I don’t work for them anymore,” reports WWD. Spanish-born Estrella Archs continues to be the chief designer for the house.
