Last night Thor: The Dark World star Natalie Portman stepped out with a dark new look. The actress debuted freshly-shorn chocolate tresses at a screening of the film in New York City, hosted by The Cinema Society and Dior Beauty. ”We just did it today! You can probably still smell my dye if you get close enough,” Portman told InStyle.com of her new locks, done by hairstylist Danilo. “It was like, twenty minutes before I got here.” Dressed in head-to-toe Dior except for a Charlotte Olympia lucite clutch, she joked about the army of people it takes to get her ready for an event. “A lot of people built this facade,” the actress shared. One of those people was makeup artist Pati Dubroff — who used only Dior Beauty products on Natalie — including Rouge Dior lipstick in Rose Baiser ($34), Diorshow Fusion Mono eyeshadow in Aventure ($30), and Diorshow Blackout mascara ($25). We are loving her sophisticated new look! One of Natalie’s favorite moments from filming the movie? “I got to slap both Tom (Hiddleton) and Chris (Hemsworth) in the face, which was a highlight for sure!,” she stated about her co-stars who play Loki and Thor, respectively. “We had a lot of fun working together.” Be sure to check out Thor: The Dark World, in theaters everywhere tomorrow.

The color-change is subtle, but it’s there! At the Paris premiere of Thor: The Dark World, Natalie Portman hit the red carpet in shorter strands with a light ombre effect for a more low-key take on the caramel highlights she has worn throughout the year. But the ombre trend may have some competition! Recently, colorist Aura Friedman at the Sally Hershberger Salon in New York City unveiled a new highlighting method meant to give off a halo effect, with a horziontal strip of blonde spanning from each ear. Dubbed Splashlights, the look is created by adding bleach to a small section of your mid-lengths, and mimics the appearance of a laser beam hitting your strands. The root area is left dark, and the ends are lightened for a natural feel. Caroline Polachek of indie band Chairlift was one of the first to try out the trend, and now we want to know: Would you rather get ombre highlights, or halo-esque Splashlights? Natalie Portman, Sarah Jessica Parker, Drew Barrymore and More Shine At the New York City Ballet Fall GalaSep 20, 2013 @ 7:15 pm
As Sarah Jessica Parker crossed Lincoln Center on the wings of designers Prabal Gurung and Olivier Theyskens—wearing a pale-pink confection of their creation—the scene was so, well, fabulous that one could imagine Carrie Bradshaw fainting into the arms of Aleksandr Petrovsky by the Revson Fountain. Asked if she had a say in her dress, Parker answered: “Who wants a say when you’re working with these two? A third say is not important.” The New York City Ballet Fall Gala hosted Natalie Portman with husband Benjamin Millepied and InStyle’s September 2013 cover girl Drew Barrymore at the David H. Koch Theater for a performance, including the premieres (with original choreography and original costumes) of “Capricious Maneuvers” from choreographer Justin Peck and designer Gurung, “Neverwhere” from choreographer Millepied and designer Iris Van Herpen, and “Spectral Evidence” from choreographer Angelin Preljocaj and designer Theyskens. “I think it was a great point in their careers to take this on,” said Parker, a gala chairman, about the designers. “I know Olivier has been wanting to do something like this and Prabal and I had talked about it, six to eight months ago, so I just think this is one of those confluences of things that come together at the right time. But for us, it’s an enormous opportunity for the arts.”
