Halloween Costume Idea: Reese Witherspoon’s Water For Elephants Look

Oct 28, 2011 @ 4:55 pm

Still debating your Halloween costume? Consider going as Water for Elephants’ glam circus entertainer Marlena Rosenbluth (played by Reese Witherspoon)! We caught up with Robin Fredriksz, the on-set makeup artist, to get instructions for creating this classic look. “I drew inspiration from the actresses of the late ‘20s and ‘30s like Jean Harlow and Carole Lombard,” Fredriksz tells InStyle.com. “All of the costumes and makeup were kept very true to that period, so sometimes when I was on set, I really felt like I had stepped back in time.” Get all the how-to beauty details by clicking through the gallery now!

Plus, catch Water for Elephants all over again, when it hits stores in Blu-ray and DVD starting Tuesday, November 1st.

Reese and Rob in London, Beyonce Goes to School, and More!

Though she posed with heartthrob Robert Pattinson on the red carpet, Reese Witherspoon described her animal attraction to a different co-star at the London premiere of Water for Elephants. “At the very end of the film I got to hold a baby lion. It was amazing,” Witherspoon (in Stella McCartney) remembered. “It was, like, clawing at my thigh!” In New York City, Beyonce got up early the morning after the Met Costume Institute Gala in order to join a group of students at PS 161 in Harlem for a dance class, while another dance-loving singer, Ciara, kicked up her heels at the Candie’s Foundation “Event to Prevent.” See all the photos from last night’s hottest parties in the gallery!

Water for Elephants: Reese Witherspoon and Robert Pattinson’s On-Set Style!

Apr 19, 2011 @ 10:15 am

To play a circus performer in the big-screen adaptation of Water for Elephants, Reese Witherspoon had to transform her chic modern style into a believable retro look, something she couldn’t have done without the expertise of wardrobe designer Jacqueline West.”In the 1930s, gowns were very revealing, ” says West. “The women of that era wore them without any underwear, so that’s what Reese did. She was very brave.” Witherspoon’s co-star Robert Pattinson also got into character with his unmentionables. “He loved that I had authentic 1930s underwear for him,” West remembers. “He said it helped transport him.” Click through to see West’s sketches of the pair’s most memorable looks.

BONUS! Win a one-of-a-kind reproduction of the red gown Witherspoon’s character wears! How to win the dress shown: Visit the InStyle Facebook page this Friday, April 22nd (the same day the movie hits theaters) at 3pm EST and be the first person to correctly answer a trivia question.

Jul 29, 2010 @ 11:53 am

Twilight heartthrob Robert Pattinson has been hard at work on the set of his new film Water for Elephants (in which he co-stars opposite Oscar winner Reese Witherspoon). But something’s missing: his signature long, messy locks! Instead, the actor is sporting a slicked-back, clean-cut look. The new haircut is completely different from the wild ‘do we first fell in love with . . . but he still looks very handsome, no? Take the poll after the jump and tell us what you think of Pattinson’s brand new ‘do!

Reese Witherspoon Wears Equestrian Chic

Jun 22, 2010 @ 3:09 pm

Spotted: Reese Witherspoon in costume on the set of Water for Elephants, looking perfectly on trend for Fall 2010. Wearing jodhpurs, a plaid vest and sleek riding boots, the blond actress was the epitome of equestrian chic. Of course, we wouldn’t expect anything else from Witherspoon, who always looks classically pulled together. Water for Elephants co-stars Twilight‘s Robert Pattinson and hits theaters in 2011.
