Sarah Hyland‘s character Haley Dunphy on Modern Family holds a special place in our hearts for her clever wit and sassy attitude, but despite Haley’s penchant for risky fashion choices, Hyland’s favorite on-set look is more low-key. “I actually like it best when Haley wears her sweaters,” the star told us at the launch for the Heart Calgon fragrance range. “I’m such a sweater girl because they’re so comfortable.” She loves the easygoing styles on the show just as much off-screen, including a jacket both she and her TV mom Julie Bowen own. “My boyfriend gave me a coat from Urban Outfitters for Christmas, and then Julie came to set wearing it about a month later,” Hyland said. “We wore it on the same day by accident, and when she walked in, I was like ‘We have the same coat!’” Good style must run in the family. At last night’s Golden Globes, we spotted Modern Family star Jesse Tyler Ferguson on the red carpet, looking typically dapper, but with one accessory noticeably absent. “This is not a bow tie from our line [Tie The Knot],” Ferguson told InStyle.com. “Because our first collection of bow ties sold out! So I thought it would be cruel to tease someone with something they cannot buy. This is a Hugo Boss tie that you can buy. It does not go for marriage equality, but still it’s very stylish and chic.” The line of bow ties in question, which Ferguson founded with fiancée Justin Mikita, benefits marriage equality—and speaks to one of Ferguson’s great sartorial passions. “I like bow ties because they are a little unique,” Ferguson told InStyle.com. “It’s easier to pull off kind of a wild fabric with the bow tie because it has a very limited real estate on your neck. I have always loved it. It’s a little left of center.” Congratulations on the big sales!

Getting ready for holiday party season? Modern Family star Sarah Hyland’s gorgeous updo already has us planning our party-time hair! The low-key texture and subtle flyaways made this updo completely modern, plus, it’s a great option for second day strands (Hyland’s hairstylist, John Ruggiero, even advised her not to lather up). He prepped her strands with Bumble and Bumble’s Classic Hairspray ($23; bumbleandbumble.com) before forming corkscrew ringlets with a curling iron. Then, he twisted her hair into a low bun, braided two sections behind Hyland’s ears, and pinned into the chignon to give off a Grecian vibe. After their impossibly adorable combination engagement-slash-charity bow tie line announcement in September, Modern Family star Jesse Tyler Ferguson and fiancée Justin Mikita have officially launched Tie The Knot! The couple celebrated the collection, which raises funds for marriage equality, in Los Angeles last night, and talked to InStyle.com about the inspiration behind the Ferguson-designed line. “This first collection has the aesthetic of throwing everything against the wall and seeing what sticks,” Ferguson joked. “Honestly, I’m absolutely new to this, so it’s trial and error with this first one. When we do our next collection, I’ll try and do something a little more cohesive with more of a through line—’a story’ as Tim Gunn would say.” Mikita added: “The one common thread is that they’re all very loud and colorful with quirky patterns.
