Final Debate Dresses: Michelle Obama vs. Ann Romney

Last night was the third and final presidential debate between candidates Mitt Romney and Barack Obama, so, as usual, we had our eyes glued to the television to see what the wives were wearing for the penultimate showdown. Michelle Obama chose to repeat a grey Thom Browne dress with black lace overlay—which she also wore during the Democratic National Convention last month—punctuated by an oversized bow-shaped brooch. Ann Romney opted for a green floral full-skirted Oscar de la Renta dress paired with a waist-cinching belt and another statement necklace. At the debate’s conclusion, Browne took to Twitter to express his excitement over dressing Mrs. O: “Honored to see First Lady Michelle Obama wearing our Spring 2013 dress at the final presidential debate!” After both women stepped out in matching hot pink for last week’s debate, and donned starkly contrasting looks at the first, it’s time to cast your vote once again: Who do you think pulled out all the fashion stops for her last debate look?

Pink Dress Debate: Michelle Obama vs. Ann Romney

The second presidential debate took place last night with Barack Obama and Mitt Romney facing off at Hofstra University. Their wives were there to offer support to what many are calling an Alpha Male battle, with both Michelle Obama and Ann Romney wearing hot fuchsia pink ensembles—perhaps an homage to National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The First Lady wore a Michael Kors crepe sheath and matching jacket, while Romney paired her short-sleeved dress with a turquoise statement necklace. Just this week, Kors told InStyle.com how he feels about dressing women in the spotlight: “I’m only as good as the people I dress,” he said at the Golden Hearts Gala in New York. “They are the ones who bring it to life.” So, which look did you prefer? Ann Romney Will Co-Host Good Morning America: What Will She Wear?

The wife of Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney will soon add TV anchor to her resume. Ann Romney is slated to guest-host ABC’s Good Morning America next Wednesday, Oct. 10, according to the Associated Press. She’s been in the limelight a lot recently, especially for her TV appearances—the fashion world spun into a frenzy when she appeared on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno in head-to-toe black leather. And now we finally know who whipped up that edgy number: It was New York-based couture designer Alfred Fiandaca, who also created the all-white suit (a look from 2006, according to The Cut) she wore for the presidential debate this week. We’re already thinking about what she might wear on the show next week. Since her last two outfits were monochromatic neutrals, might she brighten up her look a bit with some primary colors? Republican Convention: Ann Romney’s Oscar de la Renta Dress Details!

Ann Romney gave her first big speech last night at the Republican National Convention last night, and she wanted her look to reflect the importance of the moment. “It was going to be like my wedding night; I wasn’t going to let [Mitt] know what I was going to wear,” Politico.com reported. In the end, she voted for a belted A-line design by Oscar de la Renta in a bright red hue that played off the main color of the Republican party. Representatives from the label tell InStyle.com that the cardinal silk faille dress is from Oscar’s pre-fall 2012 collection, and is available for $1,990 at the designer’s stores (visit oscardelarenta.com/stores for a list of locations). As for her choice of designer, the American label is known for dressing First Ladies—de la Renta was famous for dressing Jackie Kennedy in the ’60s. That said, his pieces have not landed on Michelle Obama, and he famously spoke out about her decision to wear foreign designers rather than American labels last year. So, do you like Romney’s look?
