You could feel the positive energy anywhere you turned in The Plaza in New York City last night, as amfAR’s 4th Annual Inspiration Gala took over the space and filled it with uplifting moments. “I’m here because of the heroic people who have dedicated their lives to finding the cure for AIDS,” Uma Thurman (in Versace) told InStyle.com as she arrived to the event, which raised money and awareness for AIDS research and advocacy projects around the world. “I’m just bringing my love and energy and my prayers to their mission.” Before the gala started, the evening began with a military-themed fashion show made up of looks donated by leading menswear designers, including Hugo Boss, Calvin Klein, and Michael Kors. Kenneth Cole, amfAR’s Chair of the Board, happily played along: “I’m wearing fatigues to anticipate anything that could come of tonight—I’m prepared for it,” he joked to InStyle.com.

After the bumping runway beats faded, guests made their way to the ballroom where Thurman got down to business giving out honors while guests bid on silent auction items as they dined. “What’s special about this evening is that we’re honoring them not for their artistic achievements but for their ability to inspire us,” Thurman said of the honorees. Valentino earned the Award for Inspiration, accepted on his behalf by Iman (in Valentino), Alan Cumming took home the Award of Courage, and Jennifer Lopez (in Tom Ford) received the Humanitarian Award. “I’m deeply touched,” Lopez said tearfully. “I’m grateful that I have the opportunity of helping to improve the lives of others even if it’s in a small little way. We all just need to do a little bit and then all of a sudden all these amazing things happen.” The evening concluded with a group sing-a-long to “Call Me Maybe” spearheaded by the hitmaker herself, Carly Rae Jepsen. Who runs the world? Girls! Chime for Change’s The Sound of Change Live concert in London aired last night, and in addition to the showstopping performances by Beyoncé, Jennifer Lopez, and Mary J. Blige, the event also raised a cool $4.3 million in ticket sales. The proceeds will benefit 200 of Chime for Change’s projects to advance the lives of women and girls in over 70 countries, and host Gucci even allowed attendees to donate the value of their ticket to non-profit organizations of their choice. Salma Hayek, Gucci’s Frida Giannini, Zoe Saldana, and Blake Lively also attended, and were treated to a surprise duet performed by Bey and Jay-Z. Change never sounded so sweet! Chime for Change’s Concert for Women’s Empowerment Airs Tomorrow!

Jun 1, 2013 @ 4:00 pm

Beyonce and Madonna are  sounding off for a cause–and they’re bringing extra dose of girl power to boot! Tonight in London, Queen Bey, Jennifer Lopez, Rita Ora, and many more will take the stage at The Sound of Change Live, a concert held by Gucci’s Chime for Change campaign working to raise awareness for girls’ and womens’ issues. “I am really happy that so many amazing artists and presenters have come together to support Chime for Change,” Beyonce said. “Our goal is to have a great time together while we unite and strengthen the voices of girls and women around the world.” In addition to the star-studded performance lineup, Madonna is scheduled to present, along with Freida Pinto, Zoe Saldana, Jessica Chastain, and many others. Funds raised at the event will benefit non-profit organizations pursuing change, and encouraging education for women and girls around the world. “60% of the children in the world not in school are girls, and two-thirds of the world’s illiterate are women,” Madonna added. “We need to change this and we will change this!” We hear that! Tune in to NBC tomorrow night at 9 PM EST to see the full show.

Billboard Music Awards 2013 Fashion Photos: What Everyone Wore!

The stars played peekaboo at the 2013 Billboard Music Awards last night! Celebrities including Jennifer Lopez, Emmy Rossum, and Taylor Swift all chose to wear designs that incorporated sheer elements (and all by the same designer, Zuhair Murad). Lopez’s gold skirt was see-through, Rossum’s side panels were covered in polka dots only, and Swift’s royal blue mini featured a crackle pattern that showed off her shoulders. But no one tried to do sheer quite like Once Upon a Time star Jennifer Morrison, who walked the carpet in a completely transparent gown (save for her skivvies) by Kristian Aadnevik. Video of the Day: “Live It Up” by Jennifer Lopez

May 20, 2013 @ 10:15 am

Monday, again?! Kick your week off with a new jam by Jennifer Lopez. The star just released the music video for her new single “Live It Up”—coinciding with her performance of the tune at the Billboard Music Awards last night—and it’s pure J.Lo. All her classic elements are there: Belly-baring outfits (including her swing look by Wes Gordon), baller shades (by Swarovski), wild makeup choices (orange lipstick, anyone?), and dance moves at the going rate of 125 BPM. Her explanation: “I’m a dancer, so dance and choreography have always been a way to express myself,” she once told InStyle. “Anything you do with music or a song, or even playing a character, is a way of expressing yourself. Dance just happens to be a very sensual way of doing it.” Watch the video above to see Lopez’s latest heart-thumping song. Because it’s Monday and you should LIVE IT UP.

When it comes to shapewear, Beyonce, Emma Watson, and Jennifer Lopez all turn to one brand to guarantee their red carpet outfits look smooth: dMondaine, a line designed by Kiana Anvaripour. These ladies love the brand’s bralettes, panties, and bodysuits because they’re made to gently hug your curves and still leave enough wiggle room to feel like you haven’t cut off your circulation. “They’re sexy,” explained Watson’s stylist, Anita Patrickson, who also dresses Julianne Hough and Bond girl Berenice Marlohe. “They cover all problem areas and add an extra layer of confidence when they’re on the red carpet.” Plus, the brand just launched its new spring collection, which includes a pink-striped bra (above) preferred by Beyonce—a fun twist on the traditional monotone shaper—as well as the signature Marilyn (nude) and Victoria (black) pieces. Check out more of dMondaine’s six-piece core collection, available on net-a-porter.com for $79 to $169.

This Week’s Parties: Jennifer Lopez Had a Great Fight Night!

Mar 25, 2013 @ 3:45 pm

Muhammad Ali’s annual Celebrity Fight Night attracted plenty of stars to the J.W. Marriott Desert Ridge Resort & Spa in Phoenix to raise funds and awareness for Parkinson’s disease research—the weekend raised $7.2 million!—including Jennifer Lopez (in Maria Lucia Hohan) and Reba McEntire (in Cluny). Before taking the stage to perform five songs, Lopez accepted the gala’s Humanitarian Award on behalf of the Lopez Family Foundation, a charity she founded with her sister to increase the quality of healthcare for women and children around the world. “This award is a wonderful acknowledgment of the work we’ve delivered and that we want to deliver,” Lopez said while accepting the award. “Ever since I was young, [Muhammad] Ali has always been this massive presence; he is a larger-than-life person who inspired the world and showed us that anyone can achieve their dreams.” Click through the gallery to see more of the weekend’s star-filled parties!
