Peplum is popular this year! Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge visited De Montfort University in Leicester, England today wearing a teal dress and fitted peplum jacket by L.K. Bennett, while Blake Lively (in Jason Wu), Jennifer Aniston (in Tom Ford), and Michelle Williams (in Louis Vuitton) also wore the fit-flare style recently. So, why is it such a statement look? “It has the power to minimize your waist but achieves it by inciting a flurry of attention around your hips,” InStyle Fashion Director Hal Rubenstein has said. “This little flourish is worth the risk if it winds up accentuating something positive.” Tell us: Do you own a peplum dress?

Oscars 2012 Makeup: How to Get Michelle Williams’s Peony Pink Lipstick

Feb 27, 2012 @ 10:20 am

Best Actress nominee Michelle Williams paired her burnt orange Louis Vuitton dress with a perfect peony-toned lipstick. “My inspiration was a flower!Chanel makeup artist Angela Levin told us of creating Williams’s look. “Michelle looked so gorgeous and delicate in her dress, it made me think of a rose I have in my garden in that very same color.” Levin blended Chanel Rouge Coco Lip Colour in Paradis, a French rose color, and Destinee, an amaranth tone, together to create the unique lipstick shade. “She was like a flower in a beautiful garden,” Levin adds. Oscars 2012: Michelle Williams’ Dress Took 300 Hours to Make

Feb 26, 2012 @ 7:30 pm

Best Actress nominee Michelle Williams chose a Louis Vuitton dress with a peplum waist for her big night, and played up the strapless neckline with a Fred Leighton for Forevermark necklace that featured 30 carats worth of brilliant-cut diamonds. Fun fact: The dress took over 300 hours to make at the atelier in Paris, the label said in a statement, using silk mousseline and organza ribbons. And the My Week With Marilyn star had to pool her friends to clarify the color. “I’ve been asking everyone what color it is, and they say it’s coral or maybe pomegranate,” she said of the hue. For the record, Louis Vuitton officially called it “burnt orange.” Tell us: Do you like her look?

Michelle Williams: ‘The Only Thing I’m Wearing That I Own Is My Dignity’

Feb 26, 2012 @ 5:00 pm

Michelle Williams reflected on how far she’s come when she accepted the Best Actress Award at the 2012 Film Independent Spirit Awards in Santa Monica last night. “I first came here to the Independent Spirits Awards 10 years ago, and I wore my own clothes back then, which were not very good and I cut my own hair which was also not very good,” she said on stage. She went on to finish: “Thank you for supporting me and welcoming me and making feel at home in the room now and all the way back then, and now the only thing I’m wearing that I own is my dignity.” And what a transformation she’s made over the years—check out Williams at the same awards show in 2004 compared to last night in the photo shown here.
