Marisa Tomei, First Lady Michelle ObamaClaire Danes, Scarlett Johansson, and Rose McGowan are gravitating to prints this spring—all from the same British label, Preen. Launched by English duo Justin Thornton and Thea Bregazzi in 2001, the brand became famous for its sophisticated, cool designs and patterns, as exemplified by the women wearing them above. “Our prints say, ‘I’m modern, I’m sexy, I’m cool,” Thornton told InStyle.com. “We design them to offer women something they may not have worn before, but with this a sense of romance.” Even if you are tentative about the graphic look, Thornton has advice: “Mix them up with solids such as a simple jacket or pencil skirt, and then accessorize with minimal items,” he said. “Don’t be afraid of bold prints they make you look both current and appealing. They say ‘I’m interesting and fun!’” Preen is available starting at $240 at net-a-porter.com.

Rachel Roy and Michelle Obama: Style Twins!

Mar 29, 2012 @ 1:45 pm

Designer and InStyle contributor Rachel Roy stopped by the opening of Valentino‘s Rodeo Drive store in her own design—a watercolor silk one-shoulder dress just seen on Michelle Obama! “I’m a big believer in one shoulder for cocktail,” Roy told InStyle.com. “It’s one of my favorite styles.” The First Lady agrees! “She looked amazing. I love when someone wears a nude tone, it elongates,” the designer said of Obama’s appearance in the dress at the Palacio do Planalto in Brazil earlier this month. Roy then added, “Her arms were beautiful.” Click through the gallery to see our favorite looks from Rachel Roy’s latest collection!

How the First Ladies Represent Their Countries With Their Clothes

Mar 15, 2012 @ 3:20 pm

British Prime Minister David Cameron and his wife, Samantha Cameron, visited the Obamas in Washington D.C. this week, where the First Ladies represented their countries in a colorful mix clothes by British and American designers. The most interesting fashion moment happened at last night’s White House State Dinner, the culmination of the visit, where Michelle Obama chose a teal, off-the-shoulder Marchesa gown. Marchesa designers Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig are both British, and the label is based out of New York. Talk about a diplomatic outfit choice! See more of the First Ladies’ patriotic fashion choices in the gallery.

Our Favorite Celebs Show Off Their Christmas Trees!

Dec 8, 2011 @ 4:42 pm

Mariah Carey didn’t hesitate showing off her foxy gams when she tweeted a picture of herself next to her red and silver tinsel-covered Christmas tree!  Meanwhile, Kourtney Kardashian decorated her tree with giant, sparkly purple bulbs. (Of course!)  Ashley Tisdale sweetly showed off her work-in-progress, posting a TwitPic of her mother on a ladder, adjusting the last whirl of a garland. Our sentimental favorite? First Lady, Michelle Obama, who was photographed debuting the White House tree to a gaggle of adorable elementary school children! Michelle Obama Doesn’t Stress Over Shopping

Oct 19, 2011 @ 12:15 pm

Michelle Obama shared her fashion motto this week! “I don’t buy it if I don’t love it,” the First Lady said during a White House round table discussion, the AP reports. She then added that she prefers a laid-back approach to shopping. “I don’t want to waste anxiety on something as limited as clothes,” she said. “If I’m comfortable in what I have on, then all my attention can go to the people in the room, and I don’t have to worry about whether something is riding up or whether my feet hurt.” Good advice! Do you agree?
