Carey Mulligan Put Her Fancy Prada Dress on eBay

May 10, 2012 @ 10:40 am

On Monday night, Carey Mulligan wore a glittering gold and silver paillette-covered dress by Prada, one of her favorite designers, to a red carpet event in New York. Two days later—the dress is on eBay! The newlywed actress put the item on the global auction site for charity, promising to donate all proceeds to Oxfam, an international relief and development organization. At the time we published this, there are only six bids placed maxing out at $1,000. Bidding ends May 19th, which means expert eBayers have nine days left to carefully watch the auction and get their bids in at the very last minute (because isn’t that what we all do?). Visit her page at ebay.com to get in on the action.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s annual Costume Institute Gala is often called the Oscars of the East Coast, and it’s easy to see why—the red carpet looks are just as breathtaking! Designers and celebrities climbed the steps of the Upper East Side museum last night to celebrate the opening of its new style exhibit featuring the work of two Italian fashion greats—Miuccia Prada and Elsa Schiaparelli. In turn, many of Prada’s biggest fans showed up wearing pieces by (and in honor of) the designer, including Gwyneth Paltrow, Eva Mendes, Kate Bosworth, and Diane Krugershown above. Click through the gallery for celebrity photos and fashion credits from the 2012 Met Gala! The exhibit, Schiaparelli and Prada: Impossible Conversations, will be open to the public May 10th through August 19th; visit metmuseum.org for more information.

Carey Mulligan’s Wedding Ring: See the Photo

May 8, 2012 @ 9:20 am

Carey Mulligan attended last night’s annual Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute Gala on the arm of her new husband, Marcus Mumford of the band Mumford & Sons. The British newlywed chose a glittering gold and silver paillette-covered dress by one of her favorite designers, Prada. Not only is the label one of two honored by the esteemed museum this year, she also wore a custom Prada gown for her wedding in the English countryside two weeks ago. The only thing that glittered brighter than her dress was her diamond engagement ring, which featured a blue diamond or sapphire gem on either side, and gold wedding band, shown here for the first time since the pair tied the knot.

Sofia Vergara: ‘Valentino and Diane Von Furstenberg Watch Modern Family!’

May 11, 2011 @ 2:45 pm

Sofia Vergara met some surprising fans of her Modern Family character Gloria Delgado-Pritchett at the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s annual Costume Institute Gala last week. “I was very surprised a lot of people said they were a big fan of Modern Family,” the actress and new face of both Diet Pepsi and CoverGirl told us over the phone this week. “Diane Von Fustenberg, Valentino and his partner, everybody that was there! They would come up to me and say, ‘I love the show.’” Another designer fan is Carolina Herrera, who invited Vergara to the event and dressed the star in a figure-flattering gown with a floral motif. “They all said they love the character. I had the best time!See 86 photos of the celebrities, models, and designers at the Met Gala here.

Who Is Philip Treacy? Meet the Hat Designer to the Stars

May 4, 2011 @ 5:50 pm

When princesses and pop stars want a statement-making hat they turn to their favorite milliner: Philip Treacy (shown with Kate Winslet). Recently, his fanciful creations graced the heads of Sarah Jessica Parker, Serena Williams, and 37 members of the Royal Wedding party. So who is Mr. Treacy? The Irish-born designer has been creating toppers since the age of five, when he made miniature hats for his sisters’ dolls, and he later honed his sewing skills at Dublin’s National College of Art and Design and London’s Royal College of Art. Just before his graduation, Treacy showed his hats to Tatler fashion director Isabella Blow, who took the young designer under her wing. Treacy opened up shop in the basement of Blow’s London home, and eventually scored jobs designing hats for Chanel, Alexander McQueen, Ralph Lauren, and more. The five-time British Accessory Designer of the Year award winner has a loyal following: Lady Gaga, Demi Moore, and the British royal family are some of his best clients. What Will Happen to Kate Middleton’s Wedding Dress?

May 4, 2011 @ 3:00 pm

That’s the question we’re all wondering after seeing the exquisite Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen gown Catherine Middleton wore to marry Prince William on April 29th. Turns out, it may go on public display! “The Duchess of Cambridge is considering a number of options to give members of the public the opportunity to see, close-up, the skilled British craftsmanship that went into the making of her wedding dress by Sarah Burton and her team as well as the Royal School of Needlework,” the Clarence House said in a statement to Britain’s Telegraph. In the meantime, Burton is in New York right now—not giving any hints about the future of the gown—in celebration of the new Metropolitan Museum of Art exhibition opening dedicated to her designer mentor and the founder of the label, Alexander McQueen, which opens to the public today. Would you visit London to see Middleton’s wedding dress? Tell us in the comments below!
