Matthew Williamsom Debuts Lower-Priced Line!

Jul 31, 2011 @ 12:00 pm

Matthew Williamson debuted his diffusion line MW by Matthew Williamson this week, at a party co-hosted by his model muse Dree Hemingway and past collaborator Belvedere. “I wanted to make a collection that’s more centered around daywear. There’s no red carpet, jet-set sensibility,” the designer told InStyle exclusively. “It’s essentially a younger collection for a girl that’s a little kooky, a little more eccentric.” The line, which is in Matthew Williamson boutiques now, includes metallic party dresses, sexy jumpsuits and loads of separates in the designer’s signature prints, and prices range from $150 for belts to $660 for gowns. “An uber space bunny was beamed down to planet earth to explore the human race. What does she wear? A sequined, out of this world, Matthew Williamson mini shift dress, of course! A gold, futuristic, Melinda Maria cuff. And Louboutin shoes, a contrasting concoction of sparkles and spikes! My hair was enhanced with clip-in extensions, then ironed straight and shiny. Make up was minimal, just a wash of color on the eye and a hot pink lip. I call it “The girl who fell to earth.”

“I was nominated for an Emmy! I arrived at work and the whole team was in my dressing room with champagne, balloons and group hugs. The show has several nominations, so there’s a real celebratory buzz at the studio. I told the girls, “I just want to be simple, natural , glossy and happy.” Amy defined my eyes with some golden brown shadows. Sallie just enhanced my natural wave. I wore a classic French Connection dress, a Matthew Williamson belt, vintage Gucci shoes and some gypsy earrings my mom bought for me. This is a day I will never, ever forget. My look was timeless, natural and most definitely me.”

“I recently saw Beyonce perform at Glastonbury—what a performer, what a voice, what a gal! So my look was Beyonce meets Gladiator. I wore an Elie Tahari dress that I cinched at the waist with a Matthew Williamson studded belt. Shiny spikes covered my Givenchy shoes. The Glamour squad gave me Bigger-the-Better hair and dark smokey gray-black eye. They say all women want a noble brute—now all I have to do is find my Russell Crowe!”

British Designer Matthew Williamson’s Bridal Advice

Apr 19, 2011 @ 3:00 pm

Matthew Williamson debuted his 12-piece bridal collection last month, and we caught up with the designer to ask him about the event that’s on everyone’s mind—the Royal Wedding! “There’s a sense of excitement and curiosity,” Williamson said of being a British designer at a moment when the whole world is watching. “I’m excited to see what Kate’s going to wear on the big day,” The designer also shared some tips for brides-to-be: “Never shop alone for your bridal dress. Take a friend and bring a camera to take a picture of you,” he advised. “Make sure to get a picture of the back view, that’s the part of the dress most people are going to see for the longest time.Williamson’s own bridal collection is still evolving, and he dropped some hints about what we can expect next season. “I may introduce some color and some pattern eventually.” And despite stories of bridal designers dealing with bridezillas, Williamson insists his customers are lovely. “I’ve only dealt with fabulous brides!”

First Look: Matthew Williamson’s Wedding Dress Designs

Mar 8, 2011 @ 5:23 pm

Matthew Williamson‘s bridal line is almost here! The British designer tested the waters with a capsule collection of wedding gowns for Net-a-Porter last year, and now he just released images of his first collection of dresses under his own label. The 12-piece lineup includes a parachute gown, a tulle cocktail dress with a feather skirt, and a sheer silk maxi style, as well as jewel-encrusted mink and rabbit fur shrugs. “I evolved the bridalwear from the soft femininity and luxurious aesthetic found within my runway collections each season,” Williamson told us recently. “The pieces will offer an extensive range of options—classic silhouettes to entice both the boho, glamourous brides-to-be and the more structured, modern brides alike.” The collection will be available in several months. And what’s better when shopping for a wedding gown than options?!
