With Lindsay Lohan’s debut as Elizabeth Taylor in Lifetime’s Liz & Dick last night, the TV movie about Taylor’s love affair with actor Richard Burton, it got us thinking about other actresses who played icons on screen. Jennifer Love Hewitt played Audrey Hepburn in the TV movie The Audrey Hepburn Story in 2000, while Michelle Williams channeled her inner Norma Jeane in My Week With Marilyn last year. Soon, Naomi Watts and Nicole Kidman will be adding regal titles to their resumes with Watts filming her role as Princess Diana in Caught in Flight and Kidman playing Grace Kelly in Grace of Monaco. So, with all of these actress-to-icon portrayals, we want to know—whose reenactment is most on-point? Cast your vote on InStyle’s Facebook page now!

Erno Laszlo Opens Marilyn Monroe Exhibit

Nov 7, 2012 @ 5:04 pm

Forty years after its closing, the Erno Laszlo Institutewhere the beauty line’s eponymous founder once concocted his creations—is re-opening on West Broadway in New York’s Soho. And in celebration, the star-loved skin care line is hosting a free exhibit displaying never-before-seen clothing, makeup, and accessories once belonging to its most famous muse and customer, Marilyn Monroe. The screen siren frequented The Institute in its original location on Fifth Avenue during the 1950s, and the exhibit (open now through the end of December) is paying homage to the blonde bombshell with her black-and-white checkered pants by Jax, pink Pucci blouse, and silk robe, among other things, on display. While those of us not fortunate enough to live in the Big Apple may not have a chance to see her wares in person, we can take a moment to look back at how Marilyn transformed from Norma Jean Mortensen into one of the most iconic actresses of all time.

Chopard Redesigns Marilyn’s Gentlemen Necklace

May 17, 2012 @ 5:00 pm

At the 65th annual Cannes Film Festival, Marilyn Monroe‘s most memorable movie moment—her rousing rendition of “Diamonds Are A Girl’s Best Friend,” in the 1953 musical comedy Gentlemen Prefer Blondes—is being celebrated by ChopardThe Swiss jeweler has created a diamond necklace in honor of the blonde bombshell’s object of affection in the film. The extravaganza captures the spirit of the bib the actress flaunted in her famous musical number, but it is far more dazzling, featuring almost 200 carats of diamonds. We’re sure Marilyn would approve—or better yet sing, “Square-cut or pear-shape, these rocks don’t lose their shape!”
