Red Carpet Trend: The Cut-Out Dress

Flashes of flesh are popping up all over the red carpet in the form of cut-out dresses. Stars love this look for its mix of sophistication and sexiness, and we saw plenty of skin-showing styles at the 2013 Met Gala last night. Gwen Stefani showed off her abs in Maison Martin MargielaSolange Knowles added a pop of stomach in Kenzo, Olivia Wilde bared her belly in Calvin Klein, and Emma Watson favored asymmetry in Prabal Gurung. And that’s not all. Click to see more stars in cut-out dresses—because what’s fiercer than showing a little skin?

Margiela for H&M: In Stores Now!

Let the madness begin! People camped out on freezing New York City sidewalks to get their hands on the just-released Maison Martin Margiela for H&M collection. After an avant-garde launch party, attended by Kanye West and Sarah Jessica Parker, to name a few, and a preview of the collaboration—which includes oversize coats, baggy trousers, and (possibly) a bird—you can now officially shop the über-modern line that brings the high-end Parisian brand to the masses. “The democracy of our fashion has always been at the center of our creativity, and the collaboration with H&M allows us to push this instinct further,” the luxury Margiela label said in a statement about the partnership. “We will bring together the contrasting universes of the two houses in ways that will surprise all.” H&M’s 5th Avenue flagship in New York had shoppers lining up as early as yesterday morning. If you don’t know it by now, NYC fashionistas don’t mess around! But, hey, this could actually make Black Friday seem tame…

H&M celebrated its new designer collaboration with the Parisian house Maison Martin Margiela in Manhattan last night, and celebrities came to catch a glimpse of this new high-low partnership. Kanye West met Sarah Jessica Parker for the first time on the red carpet—they complimented each other on their Margiela looks—while Julianne MooreMena Suvari, and Selma Blair also made appearances. “I’m so excited to go in and see the collection, and just to be a part of it,” Blair said (though she got her hands on the collab’s LBD early and wore to the party). The bash included a boutique where guests could purchase goodies, and displayed art installations choreographed by Anne Teresa de Keersmaeker featuring Margiela-clad dancers using their bodies on the surface of sand canvases to create designs. Wild, but so totally Margiela. The lineup includes pieces for men and women and lands in H&M stores November 16th.
