Style Crush: Samantha Barks (a.k.a. Eponine in Les Miserables)

Samantha Barks has gone from Who’s That Girl to It Girl. Ever since her breakout role as Eponine in the Oscar-nominated film Les Miserables, we’ve been keeping tabs on our new favorite Brit rising style star (we’ll never forget about you, Kate and Pippa). And she’s impressed, steadily. She’s perfecting both her red carpet looks (like the plunging V-neck Valentino gown she wore to the Oscars or her fuchsia Roland Mouret number) and her more casual ensembles (like in a black leather skirt and summer white Reiss LBD). Keep your eye out for more impressive looks from the 22-year-old actress, who first really hit big in England as Eponine in the Les Mis production on London’s West End. Lately, she’s attending more events on the arm of fashion model boyfriend David Gandy and her second feature film The Christmas Candle with Susan Boyle, is due out this year. Before Anne Hathaway won the Best Supporting Actress honor for her role as Fantine in Les Miserables at the 2013 BAFTA Awards in London today, she walked the red carpet in a studded Burberry gown. Another stunning look from the star—she’s good at those!—and the best part of the red carpet outfit had to be her book-inspired clutch, which showed the vintage cover of Victor Hugo’s novel, Les Miserables. I love you,” Affleck said. “I don’t need to look at the teleprompter to know why I want to thank you. I want to thank you because I love you.“ And he wasn’t the only winner: Lena Dunham (in Thakoon) went home with a DGA for the pilot of Girlswhile the Les Miserables cast showed up, too, with director Tom Hooper staying close to stars Hugh Jackman and Anne Hathaway (in Valentino) throughout the night. Anne Hathaway’s Side-Swept Pixie: Get the Look

Jan 9, 2013 @ 4:49 pm

Anne Hathaway knows the power of a versatile pixie, and we loved the tousled version she wore to the National Board of Review Awards in New York. Her inspiration? ”I want to thank Tom Hooper for directing this movie and inspiring this hairdo tonight,” Hathaway joked to the director of Les Miserables when she accepted the Best Ensemble Award, referencing how her character Fantine chopped off her hair live on film. We caught up with Hathaway’s hairstylist Sascha Breuer, who created the look, to get the key tips on translating it off the red carpet. Breuer began by spritzing Wella’s Beach Texture Spray ($16; wella.com for locations) onto damp hair, then blow-dried it. He then passed a flat iron over random sections for texture. “Mist the spray directly on your fingers and define single strands,” he added.”Your hair will look and feel natural, even though the product has a strong hold level.” Gorgeous!

Les Miserables Star Eddie Redmayne Turns 31 Today

Jan 6, 2013 @ 9:00 am

Swoon! British actor Eddie Redmayne first turned heads with his role opposite Michelle Williams in 2011′s My Week with Marilyn, and the brooding star turns 31 today! His latest turn as young rebel lover Marius Pontmercy in Les Miserables proved to be one of the most powerful vocal performances in the entire film. He was InStyle’s Man of Style for December, and (no surprise here) received rave reviews from the ladies he’s worked with. “Eddie lives at the crossroads of crazy-smart and passionate,” his Les Mis co-star Anne Hathaway says. “He’s one of the warmest human beings I’ve had the luck to know. Plus, he’s a nerd, which I think is awesome.” Happy birthday, Eddie!
