Cue the drumroll ladies and gentlemen, this year’s most liked Instagram was posted by… Justin Bieber! With his legions of “Beliebers” this may not come as a shock, but with over 1.5 million likes the pop star’s photo of him and his “uncle Will” has claimed the title for 2013.
What were the other major social moments on Instagram this year? Thanksgivukkah, for one. Instagram saw record usage on November 28—Thanksgiving and the first day of Hanukkah—making it the most Instagrammed day of the year with hashtags like #menurkey used to celebrate the two holidays. As far as hashtags go, the most used photo tag of 2013 was #love, with celebrities like Gisele Bundchen (who captioned this adorable photo with her daughter #love) partaking in the trend. Instagram’s top geotagged city in the world was New York City, with the top geotagged location in the United States being Times Square, NYC.
Twitter’s 2013 tops showed the world coming together in loss, love, and celebration. The most retweeted tweets of the year took on a more somber subject—when Glee star Cory Monteith died in July, Lea Michele‘s short note and accompanying photo was retweeted more than 408,000 times, including retweets in more than 130 different countries. Actor Paul Walker’s sudden death generated the second-most retweeted post of 2013, with the confirmation tweet from his staff garnering more than 400,000 retweets. The most-tweetable moments of the year included Pop Francis’ papal inauguration, Nelson Mandela’s death, the Boston Marathon bombings, and the US government shutdown.

There’s a cute new addition to Lea Michele‘s furry family! Yesterday, the Glee actress gave her new dog Pearl a warm welcome by posting a sweet picture of her to Twitter. “Today I would like to introduce you to Pearl,” she wrote. “She’s 8 years old and is my new little love. Welcome, Pearl!” While we’re not yet sure of the breed, one thing is certain — Pearl is having no trouble adjusting to the star’s fabulous life. She’s already worked the camera at her first photo shoot with Michele, and seems to be getting along well with Lea’s tortoiseshell cat, Sheila — which has us wondering if Pearl will follow in the footsteps of her feline friend and start her own Twitter account! We sure wouldn’t mind seeing that cute face in our feed every day.

Chic should be Lea Michele‘s middle name, because anything the Glee actress wears is always a look to covet. The 27-year-old recently attended the Hollywood Foreign Press Association’s Glee junket, and in between grabbing lunch with co-stars Jane Lynch and Matthew Morrison at the Four Seasons Hotel in L.A., Michele stepped out in a tri-colored Fausto Puglisi dress with a yellow and lavender pleated flared skirt, paired with black Rupert Sanderson for Osman ankle-strap sandals. The actress finished her look with a must-have accessory: a black leather Donatienne envelope clutch that featured a lazer-cut fur accent. The Donatienne Megan clutch is available at donatiennehandbags.com for $325 and comes in blue, black, or black with a white heart-patterned fur accent.

Teen Choice Awards 2013: Lea Michele and the Glee Cast Remember Cory Monteith, Plus What Everyone WoreAug 12, 2013 @ 1:07 pm
Last night at the 2013 Teen Choice Awards, Lea Michele and the cast of Glee paid tribute to the late Cory Monteith, and there wasn’t a dry eye in the house as Michele took the stage to dedicate her award to Monteith’s memory. “For all of you out there who loved and admired Cory as much as I did, I promise that with your love, we’re going to get through this together,” she said in her emotional speech. “Whether you knew him personally or just as Finn Hudson, Cory reached out and he became a part of all of our hearts — and that’s where he’ll stay forever, so thank you guys so much.” Such a fitting, heartfelt tribute. Kerry Washington, Selena Gomez, and Miley Cyrus were among the A-List attendees, lining the red carpet in fashion-forward ensembles. Cory Monteith, we will miss you. The 31-year-old Canadian actor passed away suddenly in Vancouver on Saturday, and sent fans around the world into a state of shock and grieving. He first charmed his way into our hearts as the lovable football player with a softer side Finn Hudson on Glee in 2009. “I wasn’t like Finn. I didn’t really go to school as much as he does,” he once told InStyle.com. “I cut a lot of class, so I’m glad things worked out as well as they did!” It was on that very set where he met his girlfriend, Lea Michele. A TV power couple since last January, they traveled the world together — even doing fun fashion things like stopping at a Versace runway show during Couture Fashion Week last summer — and became one of the most adorable duos of red carpet season. We can’t help but remember one of our favorite Cory Monteith moments, when the couple got ready for the SAG awards together in January. The actor told us, “Lea’s dress? It’s stunning. I am the luckiest man!” Cory, you are gone too soon.
