Angelina Jolie (in Saint Laurent), Lauren Bush Lauren, and more came together in support of international women’s rights yesterday at the first day of the 2013 Women in the World Summit, an annual event sponsored by the Women in the World Foundation and held at New York City’s Lincoln Center. The female empowerment event was co-hosted by several powerful ladies, including Daily Beast editor-in-chief Tina Brown (shown with Jolie) and designer Diane von Furstenberg. After an evening filled with inspirational performances and speeches, Jolie closed out the night by pledging $200,000 to the Malala Fund, a Pakistani education initiative started by Malala Youstafzai, the 15-year-old who received international attention after she was shot by the Taliban for her outspoken support of gender equality in education. “They shot her at point blank range and made her stronger,” Jolie said in her speech announcing her support for the Malala Fund. “In a brutal attempt to silence her voice, it grew louder, and she is more resolute.” To learn more about the summit and to live stream the events, head to womenintheworld.org. Target’s Next Designer Collaboration Has a Charitable Touch, Thanks to Lauren Bush Lauren’s FEED USA Partnership

Mar 11, 2013 @ 1:34 pm

Target is known for its amazing designer collaborations—Missoni, Prabal Gurung, Gwen Stefani, to name a few—and now, it’s adding a charity element to its next big partnership: FEED USA + Target. The retailer teamed up with Lauren Bush Lauren’s FEED organization to create 50 limited-edition pieces set to hit shelves this June, including home goods, stationery, apparel, and accessories with prices ranging from $3 to $400. Most importantly, the Target line will incorporate the main element that made the FEED charity so popular: Each sale will directly feed children. Sales from the Target line will benefit Feeding America, a national hunger-relief charity, and even better, each product will features a number on it showing exactly how many meals it provides. “Through product sales, we hope to provide 10 million meals to Americans in need, which would make it the largest U.S. initiative in FEED’s history,” Lauren said in a statement. “I am proud that we will be able to empower guests to make a measurable impact through the purchase of the FEED USA + Target collection.” Support the cause by Tweeting the hashtag #FEEDUSA and by shopping the collection, in stores and on target.com starting June 30th.

Jul 18, 2012 @ 5:55 pm

Donna Karans DKNY partnered with Lauren Bush Laurens FEED Projects to create a capsule collection, which is now available for $115 to $220 on dkny.com. The “Survival” lineup is as functional as it sounds, with a diaper bag (comes with a changing pad), city tote (packed with an umbrella), and rainboots (they fold up). “It’s really great that there other like-minded companies out there creating fashionable products that also stand for something bigger than themselves,” Lauren said in a video for the collection. Proceeds will be donated to the non-profit she started, FEED Projects, which gives meals to children in need around the world through the United Nations World Food Programme. So far, the organization has given out 60 million—amazing, indeed!

Lauren Bush’s Engagement Ring

Dec 16, 2010 @ 5:29 pm

Lauren Bush and David Lauren are engaged! This fashionable couple—Bush is the niece of George W. Bush and founder of the charitable FEED bags, while Lauren is Ralph Lauren‘s son—announced their good news over the weekend. (Lauren proposed at the Metropolitan Museum of New York, where they had originally met six years ago.) Bush showed off her new engagement ring, a round solitaire, at a party this week, and we caught up with InStyle‘s fine jewelry and watches contributor Marion Fasel to find out the details. “The round brilliant cut diamond engagement ring is an all American classic,” Fasel explained, estimating that the size is upwards of three carats. “The size David chose adds a splash of glamour to the iconic design.” Yes, glamorous indeed! Now we’re just left wondering if Ralph Lauren will design her wedding gown…?

Lauren Bush Designs FEED Bags for Gap

Aug 31, 2010 @ 3:28 pm

As a part of FEED Projects‘ new program to support nutrition in America’s schools, founder Lauren Bush has teamed up with Gap Creative Director Patrick Robinson to create an exclusive line of FEED USA bags. Gap will donate $5 for every bag sold to the National School Lunch Program. (Plus, since every school faces its own set of challenges, you’ll get to select which teacher-touted school improvement program your five bucks goes to.) The three styles—the lunchbox, denim bucket bag and canvas tote—will retail from $20 to $40, and will go on sale September 10th as a part of Fashion’s Night Out, though stars like Kristen Bell and Nicky Hilton are already toting them!

Lauren Bush’s New FEED Bag

May 7, 2010 @ 2:32 pm

With summer rapidly approaching there couldn’t have been a better time for FEED Projects founders Lauren Bush and Ellen Gustafson to launch their newest bag benefiting Guatemala—the multi-colored charitable totes are perfect for weekend jaunts! “FEED had been very monotone—we wanted to do something fun and colorful for the summer,” said Gustafson at the bag’s Lord & Taylor launch. The pair partnered with the organization Nest to hire Guatemalan artisans to create the beautiful fabrics used for the bags, which come in two sizes, FEED 3 ($39) and FEED 1 ($19). They also spoke passionately about their desire to change the lives of the children in Guatemala. “Kids are chronically malnourished—you can physically see it because they have stunted growths,” Bush told us.  Proceeds of the bags’ sales go towards U.S Fund for UNICEF’s program to add micronutrients to children’s food.  Purchase the covetable summer tote and help the cause at Feedprojects.org.
