MTV headed to Brooklyn tonight for the annual MTV Video Music Awards. This show is known for its fun and playful fashion, like Katy Perry playing off her “Roar” single in leopard-print Emanuel Ungaro, and its risky choices, as seen on Miley Cyrus’s jewel-covered two-piece Dolce & Gabbana design. Katy Perry recently revealed info about her next album, Prism, by sending a big gold truck with its name and release date cruising through Los Angeles. Fans snapped photos as it made its way down the California streets — if you see it take a picture; she’ll give you a RT on Twitter – and the excitement doesn’t stop there. Perry’s longtime stylist, Johnny Wujek, revealed that they’re already gearing up for her the Prism launch by pre-planning her looks. “It’s going to be amazing,” he told InStyle.com last night at American Eagle’s Rock Your Walk event in New York City. While Wujek was tight lipped when it came to specifics, he did offer up some clues as what fans can expect. “Forget about the candy and all that stuff and take it to the next level,” he continued. “She’s grown up.” As for the meaning behind the album title? “Prism takes light and it shoots it back out, so it’s her just taking it all in and then shining out her light on her fans.” We can’t wait to bask in it! Let the countdown until November 22 commence.

It was a big weekend for The Smurfs 2! Stars of the sequel — which takes the Smurfs on a journey to Paris in order to rescue Smurfette (voice of Katy Perry) after she’s kidnapped by evil wizard Gargamel (Hank Azaria) and his Naughties (voices of Ricci and J.B. Smoove) — celebrated the film’s upcoming release on both coasts. In California, Katy Perry (in Tadashi Shoji) and Britney Spears headed to the Regency Theatre in Westwood for some red-carpet bonding for the L.A. premiere. “So great to see you Smurfette @katyperry! Can’t wait for our Vegas date…” Spears, who sings the movie’s theme song “Ooh La La,” Tweeted after the premiere. On the same Sunday in New York City, Christina Ricci (in Thom Browne) and Azaria walked a blue carpet at Citi and The Wall Street Journal’s screening at the Lighthouse International Theater. First arrival Ricci raved about doing the voice for character Vexy (no hair or makeup required!), her upcoming wedding (all details set!), and, of course, Smurf fashion. Her advice to the blues girls? “I don’t think sleeveless is an incredibly good look for all the Smurfs!” And the adventure didn’t stop after the film. Guests, including Girls‘ Jemima Kirke and her kids, walked an avenue over to Dylan’s Candy Bar to put a sweet end on the fun day, as mini grilled cheeses, hot dogs, and caprese bites were passed around, along with plenty of blue and white candy. The Smurfs 2 opens in theaters Wednesday, July 31.

Comic-Con came to an end over the weekend, and if you dyed your hair to match your costume, you may be stuck with a vivid hue that doesn’t exactly translate into the corporate world — unless you’re Katy Perry, of course. Luckily, most Crayola hues fade quickly because of the large amount of color molecules used in the dye. Also, shampoos like Head and Shoulders ($9; drugstore.com) and Pert Plus ($4; drugstore.com) work wonders at removing unwanted tones. If your hair is heavily-stained, a peroxide shampoo bath may be your best bet. “When hair gets stained, the color goes into the cuticle and becomes hard to remove,” said Joel Warren of Warren-Tricomi Salons. “At the salon, we put low-volume peroxide in a gentle shampoo and soak the hair until the stain comes out.” No time to book an appointment before tomorrow’s big meeting? You can also try the same process at home. “Just buy a bottle of 20 volume peroxide, and add it to shampoo,” Warren added. “Keep checking every five minutes, wash out, then reapply if necessary.” Your hair color should fade significantly. But if you’re still dealing with unwanted rosy tints in your highlights, pull your hair into a top knot for the time being, and work with your colorist to nurse your strands back to their original shade.

After watching a screening of The Great Gatsby in 3-D, Gwen Stefani and Katy Perry made their way to the Top of the Standard in Lower Manhattan to party Gatsby-style with the cast, including stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Carey Mulligan, and director Baz Luhrmann. “I hope [the audience] takes away the desire to have some rocking out great parties, wear groovy frocks, play the soundtrack, and have a few glasses of champagne!” director Baz Lurhmann told InStyle.com at the screening, hosted by Quintessentially Lifestyle at the Modern Museum of Art. The Great Gatsby opens in theaters Friday, May 10. Click the photo for more.
The third time’s the charm for Katy Perry! The singer debuted her new scent Killer Queen in New York last night, and tweeted fans a first look at the elegant jewel-cut bottle. (She even matched her manicure to the red and gold color scheme!) ”I have been working on my third fragrance for a year and want to unveil the look now,” she wrote. Killer Queen joins the singer’s feline-themed Purr and Meow! scents, both of which incorporate sweet elements like peach, vanilla, honeysuckle, and apple. No word yet on the specific notes in her new spritzer, but judging by the floral dress she wore to the launch dinner, we’re guessing it incorporates red and white roses with a regal twist.
