Gwen Stefani and Katy Perry Celebrate The Great Gatsby in New York

May 6, 2013 @ 4:20 pm

After watching a screening of The Great Gatsby in 3-D, Gwen Stefani and Katy Perry made their way to the Top of the Standard in Lower Manhattan to party Gatsby-style with the cast, including stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Carey Mulligan, and director Baz Luhrmann. “I hope [the audience] takes away the desire to have some rocking out great parties, wear groovy frocks, play the soundtrack, and have a few glasses of champagne!” director Baz Lurhmann told InStyle.com at the screening, hosted by Quintessentially Lifestyle at the Modern Museum of Art. The Great Gatsby opens in theaters Friday, May 10. Click the photo for more.

First Look: Katy Perry’s Third Perfume, Killer Queen

May 3, 2013 @ 2:00 pm

The third time’s the charm for Katy Perry! The singer debuted her new scent Killer Queen in New York last night, and tweeted fans a first look at the elegant jewel-cut bottle. (She even matched her manicure to the red and gold color scheme!) ”I have been working on my third fragrance for a year and want to unveil the look now,” she wrote. Killer Queen joins the singer’s feline-themed Purr and Meow! scents, both of which incorporate sweet elements like peach, vanilla, honeysuckle, and apple. No word yet on the specific notes in her new spritzer, but judging by the floral dress she wore to the launch dinner, we’re guessing it incorporates red and white roses with a regal twist.

Vera Wang and Katy Perry Bring Awareness to Blood Cancer at the DKMS Gala

May 2, 2013 @ 4:00 pm

Katy Perry (in Vera Wang) was on hand at Cipriani Wall Street in New York City to honor Vera Wang for her work supporting DKMS at the the 7th Annual Delete Blood Cancer DKMS Gala. “I’m just honored to be honored,” Wang told InStyle.com before taking the stage to accept accolades for her Share the Love Campaign with Leighton Meester, as the two teamed up to promote and sell a T-shirt with her Lovestruck fragrance with proceeds going directly to DKMS, an organization that raises awareness for blood cancer and empowers people to become bone marrow donors. “It’s impressive how many lives they save!” The evening was filled with musical performances by Jill Scott and country group Lady Antebellum, as well as inspirational speeches, including a video message from Meester, who couldn’t be in attendance. “As thankful as I am, as truly blessed and grateful that I can be to be part of the DKMS family, I can say that I am mostly motivated by the survivors. The survivors are my heroes,” Meester said in her video. To learn more about how you can become a donor head to deletebloodcancer.org. Plus, click the photo to see more.

Inside the Party: The Great Gatsby Costumes by Prada & Miu Miu Go on Display

May 2, 2013 @ 10:45 am

If you weren’t already eagerly awaiting Baz Luhrmann’s film adaptation of The Great Gatsby, the utterly decadent costumes designed by Miuccia Prada and Catherine Martin will completely lure you in. Prada, who first collaborated with Luhrmann on Romeo + Juliet, selected garments from prior collections that already had 1920s elements and re-styled them for each of the two balls that take place in the movie. The gorgeous result is a bespoke collection displayed not only in the movie (in theaters May 10) but also the new exhibition, Catherine Martin and Miuccia Prada Dress Gatsby at the Prada Epicenter in Soho. It marks the first time ever that Prada and Miu Miu garments are housed under the same roof, and we were there to see the exquisite sequin, crystal, and pearl-encrusted costumes up close at the New York opening, along with Prada-clad guests Florence WelchKaty Perry, the film’s stars Carey Mulligan and Isla Fisher, and the collaborators Catherine Martin and Miuccia Prada. In the novel, F. Scott Fitzgerald transformed parties into characters themselves, and Prada was able to do the same with the exhibit. Mirroring the lavishness of the costumes, the downtown space is decorated with custom Gatsby wallpaper, screens with behind-the-scenes montages, and cases of ornate accessories. “I wish I could have been in the movie just to wear that costume,” we heard one guest whisper to another. We’ve never wanted to be Daisy Buchanan more.

The exhibit will be on display at the Soho Epicenter through May 12 and then travels to Prada’s Tokyo Epicenter store and the IFC Mall in Shanghai. Click to see more photos.

Hollywood headed to the capitol over the weekend to attend the annual White House Correspondents’ Dinner in Washington D.C. The star-studded evening, attended by A-listers like Katy Perry (in Giambattista  Valli), Sofia Vergara (in Herve L. Leroux), Nashville stars Connie Britton (in Temperley London) and Hayden Panettiere (in Katherine Kidd), Jessica Paré (in Antonio Berardi), and Gabby Douglas (in David Meister), was filled with laughs courtesy of the night’s host Conan O’Brien and President Obama, who poked fun at himself and O’Brien in his humorous speech. “I understand that when the Correspondents’ Association was considering Conan for this gig, they were faced with that age-old dilemma: Do you offer it to him now, or wait for five years and then give it to Jimmy Fallon?” the President ribbed (watch his speech here).
