Private Practice Star Kate Walsh’s Secret to Rich Red Hair

May 1, 2012 @ 5:40 pm

Kate Walsh has a red hair secret: She uses three different shampoos to keep up the intensity of her auburn hue! “When you have hair that is colored and worked on every single day, you’ve got to spoil your hair a little bit,” the actress told InStyle.com. “And I don’t feel so bad because I read an interview with Sofia Vergara, where she said she uses eight!” Kidding aside, Walsh said her go-to is Bumble & Bumble’s True Red Color Support line ($23 each; bumbleandbumble.com). “Some shampoos for color-treated hair turn red hair a little pink, but Bumble & Bumble’s is a coppery red, which works great for me,” she said. “And I try not to wash it every day since red hair fades super fast.” See the redhead in a new episode of Private Practice tonight at 10/9c on ABC.

Weekend Hair Idea: Low, Sleek Ponytails

Mar 2, 2012 @ 2:20 pm
Gwyneth Paltrow - Ponytails AFF-USA; Everett Collection; FilmMagic; Sipa

Looking for a quick and easy weekend hair idea? Try a sleek ponytail! We love how Rosario Dawson, Kate Walsh, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, and Gwyneth Paltrow‘s styles are simple, but still polished. Dawson and Walsh swept their hair back, while Huntington-Whiteley and Paltrow incorporated graphic parts. Recreate the look by raking a shine serum through your strands to give them a mirror-like finish, before fastening hair at the nape of your neck. And no bright hair ties here—look for an elastic that matches your hair color so your style looks even more seamless.

Kentucky Derby Hats: Kate Walsh Explains Her Choice

May 9, 2011 @ 1:45 pm

California girl Kate Walsh ventured over to Louisville, Kentucky for her very fist visit to the Kentucky Derby this weekend, and InStyle caught up with the actress as she made her final and most important outfit decision—the hat. “I want something simple, but elegant,” the Private Practice star told us over the phone. “I don’t want to have the hat that eclipses everything else, and I don’t want to look funereal.” She said she had several choices to pair with her white Max Mara dress, including toppers with veils, but it all came down to size and shape. “You want something that’s strong, but not too overwhelming,” she explained. “You don’t want to look like the crazy hat lady.” Walsh revealed her final choice—a game day decision—when she arrived at the Derby to host Mott’s Garden Blend Suite with a navy wide-brim hat with a single feather from Ariane Millinery.

Stars are adding some laid-back style to their daytime looks with flared jeans. Taking their fashion cues from Gucci and Marc Jacobs’ ’70s-inspired collections, celebrities broke out the flattering style in every shade of blue, from nearly-bleached to deep indigo. Gwyneth Paltrow (right) paired her MiH Marrakesh jeans with a gauzy scarf and brown boots for a trip through Heathrow airport this week, while Claudia Schiffer (left) cinched her dark flares with a belt earlier this month. Kate Walsh’s Break-Up Solution: Perfume

Feb 3, 2011 @ 5:36 pm

After Kate Walsh breaks up with a guy, it isn’t her ex that she misses; it’s the way he smells. That’s why the Private Practice star created a fragrance that evokes the scent of a man, minus the man. “Everyone wants to have that boyfriend feeling, whether you have a boyfriend or not,” Walsh, in Ferragamo, told us last night at the launch of her fragrance at Sephora in New York. “It’s obvious [because] there are boyfriend shirts, boyfriend jeans, and it’s like what is that? What do we crave?” For Walsh, it’s a scent. Sure, she had tried to actually wear men’s fragrance, but couldn’t seem to find one that was subtle enough for day wear. With her new perfume, it’s just the right mix of masculine and feminine—yes, we sniffed it—with notes like jasmine, amber and vanilla. The fragrance is available now in oil, lotion and perfume for $20 to $95 exclusively at Sephora stores and Sephora.com.

Kate Walsh Shows Off Genetic Denim’s First Collaboration Line

Jan 10, 2011 @ 12:04 pm

Genetic Denim launched its first collaboration line recently, partnering with Nevena Borissova (inset), owner of the popular Curve boutiques in Los Angeles, New York and Miami, for a six-piece collection. The items, which she developed with the label’s creative director Ali Fatourechi, capture a popular trend on the spring runways: Seventies separates. “It is refreshing and light, and provides a nice contrast to the more dramatic looks we see throughout fall,” said Borissova of the trend. This is proven in her line, which includes a denim skirt, shirt, belted shirtdress, quilted corset top, cropped jean and bell bottoms (as seen on Kate Walsh). More
