When Tommy Hilfiger opened his Los Angeles flagship this spring, it wasn’t just a night dedicated to socializing with his celebrity friends like Jessica Alba, Jennifer Lopez, and Julianne Hough. The milestone was also the launch of the Tommy Hilfiger Corporate Foundation’s partnership with P.S. ARTS to endow and develop a multi-year arts education curriculum in two Los Angeles schools, Walgrove Elementary School and Grand View Elementary. The Hilfiger-funded program will help students with autism and other special needs achieve their full academic and career potential by providing over 950 students with ongoing, weekly arts classes. “[My wife] Dee and I are passionate about programs that make sure families dealing with issues like lack of access to medical care and education have access to the resources they need,” Hilfiger told InStyle.com, adding that he’s thrilled to help students by providing “dynamic and innovative learning environments.” And his celebrity fans were happy to throw their support behind the cause. ”I love that [Tommy Hilfiger] advocates for children’s education,” Alba told InStyle.com. “I just love that they support those issues.” Visit psarts.org to learn more about the program, and see more exclusive photos from inside the opening on page 110 of May’s new InStyle issue—also available on your iPad, Nook, or Droid tablet.
When Julianne Hough stepped out to the British Fashion Council’s London Show Rooms event in Los Angeles, she complemented her Peter Pilotto dress with a cute pair of white pumps, and we found them! These Musilova sandals are the product of Preen’s collaboration with Aldo’s Aldo Rise program, which aims to help rising brands like Preen inhabit the spotlight. And with fans like Hough, they’re doing just that! The style is available in Hough’s chosen Ice colorway or a more statement-making neon yellow and python print combo. Shop them for $155 at aldoshoes.com.

Julianne Hough can’t wait for you to see Safe Haven, the latest Nicholas Sparks book-turned-film, open in theaters today. In the movie, Hough plays Katie, a woman with a dark secret, who moves to a small North Carolina town and finds herself falling for widowed store owner Alex (Josh Duhamel). “We shot it in the summer, and it was the best summer of my life,” Hough told InStyle.com. “I hope everyone who sees can feel the excitement that I had shooting the movie.” For the role, the actress/singer/dancer underwent a complete transformation—both physically (her haircut) and professionally (her serious side). “I got my haircut for the movie, and with the short hair, I felt like Katie from the get go. It’s amazing how a haircut can do that,” she said. As for her career, she’s invigorated by the experience this brought her. “I grew so much as an actress and it’s a complete departure for people to see this new side of me. This side of me definitely doesn’t lean and hold on to the singing and dancing side to me—I don’t have a crutch,” she said. “It’s about growth and heading in the direction I want to head. I want to be as versatile as possible.”
Fun fact: In honor of the movie, Baked by Melissa created a Safe Haven cupcake flavor; head to bakedbymelissa.com ($45 for a box of 50) to pick up the tasty treats.

We always thought of Julianne Hough as a triple threat—dancer, singer, actor—but the 24-year-old has more talents in her arsenal. The multi-hyphenate added designer to her superstar resume, teaming up with Sole Society to release a capsule collection of fun, go-anywhere shoes that just went on sale this week. “I’ve always wanted to create and make things,” she told InStyle.com of her design process. “I picked exact embellishments, buckles, and fabrics. It was really hands-on!” She created five styles—a peep-toe bootie (Angela), a T-strap flat (Addy), an ankle strap sandal (Gianna), bow flat (Maddi), and zipper sandal (Makenna), all named after her pals. “I think you will feel sassy and fun when you put the shoes on,” she added. “Fashion is supposed to bring out your personality and shoes are the best way to do that.” Click through the gallery to see all of the styles and colors, and shop them starting at $49.95 on solesociety.com and nordstrom.com. And stay tuned for more! She’s releasing additional styles over the next few months.
