The Television Critics Association Press Tour is underway and television stars across all networks are dressing up to debut their new fall shows. The two-week event is one of the bi-annual conferences that give TV showrunners some valuable face time with journalists to discuss upcoming seasons. With events and parties held day after day, the actresses are making themselves stand out on the carpet—literally, in vivid technicolor picks. Joy Bryant, Anna Faris (in Versace) and Ashley Tisdale were among those who elected bright and bold over sweet and subdued. Click to see more monochromatic ensembles.
InStyle fashion director Hal Rubenstein is in for a treat on Monday, June 6th when he’ll be presented with the Founder’s Award by the Council of Fashion Designers of America at the organization’s annual awards gala. With such a big honor—the highly-prestigious award is named after CFDA founder Eleanor Lambert and given to someone who has made a unique contribution to the world of fashion—InStyle decided to celebrate early with a party for Rubenstein at the Standard Hotel in New York. Padma Lakshmi, Joy Bryant, Rachel Roy, Derek Lam, Prabal Gurung, Christian Cota, and more toasted his achievement with sips of white wine and champagne. Coach hosted an evening of cocktails in support of the Children’s Defense Fund in Santa Monica last night, and the leading ladies of Hollywood showed up to celebrate—and shop! “I don’t need to shop to celebrate the Children’s Defense Fund,” Jennifer Garner told InStyle on her way into the soiree. “The work they do to advocate for and help children living in poverty in the United States is so important.” Once inside, guests including Scarlett Johansson, Amy Adams, and Zoe Saldana perused Coach’s new collections, and even Coach’s new classic vintage ‘70s styles for Net-a-Porter.com were on display (Mad Men’s Christina Hendricks walked away with the collection’s crimson shoulder bag). Target’s latest designer collaboration—William Rast for Target—hits stores this Sunday, just in time for your holiday shopping. The limited-edition pieces from the label co-founded by Justin Timberlake and Trace Ayala include jeans, T-shirts and jackets for men and women for $16.99 to $199.99. Ayala (far left) and Timberlake (center) celebrated the launch of the line earlier this week in Los Angeles—dressed in tees from the Target line, of course!—with famous friends Malin Akerman, Joy Bryant and Minka Kelly.
In less than a decade, Rachel Zoe has gone from dressing young, up-and-coming pop stars like Britney Spears and Jessica Simpson to styling award-winning actresses like Jennifer Garner and Anne Hathaway. Now a celebrity in her own right, Zoe’s added designer and reality TV star to her impressive resume. The third season of her series The Rachel Zoe Project will premiere August 3rd on Bravo, and to celebrate, Zoe sat down with InStyle to discuss the looks—and ladies—that made her a star.
The secret’s out: Those stars who look like they rolled out of bed (or yoga class) glowing and gorgeous? Not necessarily so. “There’s a relaxed feel to this season’s beauty,” says makeup artist Emma Kotch, who works with Kate Bosworth. “But don’t think it’s easy. It’s actually more challenging because you have to soften everything.” We asked pros (and one of the stars herself) to describe how they create a bare-faced effect (from foundation to mascara) on four actresses with a range of skin tones. Joy Bryant has teamed up with handbag aficionado and friend Monica Botkier on a charitable purse that might just be that perfect summer carryall. The Joy Satchel ($575), made of soft brown pebble leather, features cool topstitching and a detachable shoulder strap so you can carry it as a tote or sling it over your shoulder like a messenger bag. “Inside is a detachable clutch that is the perfect size to take out at night,” Bryant told us. “It’s like three bags in one! I love bags that are hip-slung and this one is made of the kind of leather that ages really well and will get nice and worn and rugged looking.” And the bag isn’t just functional: it also helps a good cause. Fifty percent off the proceeds benefit Oxfam America, an anti-poverty charity where Bryant is an ambassador. More
