In the The Hunger Games book, the Capitol is described as an overindulgent place of colored hair and exquisite fashion—and we can’t wait to see how the movie’s head costume designer Judianna Makovsky interpreted Suzanne Collins’ futuristic vision for the big screen. “We had so much to go on from the book,” Makovsky told InStyle.com of how she conceptualized the designs. “A lot of the decisions were made before [the cast] was even hired.” That includes dozens of costumes for lead actors Katniss, Peeta, Gale, and Effie as well as thousands more for extras. And, in an exciting twist, we might be seeing these beyond the theaters. “Nothing in confirmed, but I’m pretty sure they’ll go on display, some sort of exhibit,” she said. Wouldn’t that be great?! See more need-to-know costume info from Makovsky in the gallery now, and check out the movie in theaters this Friday, March 23rd.
Here’s a shopping alert for all of the Katniss and Peeta wannabes out there: Toys ‘R’ Us is selling replicas of the training uniforms the two District 12 Tributes wear during the training scenes in The Hunger Games. The tops, which feature red and gray stripes with the number 12 on the back in honor of the tributes’ home district, sell for $28 each at toysrus.com. Well, now you have an option for what to wear to see the movie when it opens this weekend!

Let the games begin! The Hunger Games premiered at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles last night, where stars Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, and Liam Hemsworth signed fan autographs, answered endless questions, and posed for countless pictures. Does the scene sound familiar? Fans of the book could’ve sworn it was the Tribute Parade all over again! “I hope people like it,” Hemsworth said, anticipating the crowd’s reaction when the movie opens nationwide Friday, March 23rd. “I’m pinching myself. I feel extremely fortunate.” See more stars at the premiere (and find out what each of them wore) in the gallery.
