Jil Sander’s $260 Paper Bag: Would You Wear It?

Aug 29, 2012 @ 2:25 pm

Bagged lunch goes high fashion! This “Vasari” clutch from Jil Sander’s fall 2012 men’s collection is actually made of paper, which has been coated and stitched at the seams, and sells for $260. The bag is part of creative director Raf Simons’s final collection for the brand, which he helmed for seven years before joining Christian Dior as the new creative director. That’s enough to motivate lots of people to buy it, because the bag  sold out at the brand’s Soho store in New York, according to the New York Daily News. (It’s still available at barneys.com, though!). Would you buy the designer paper bag? Vote below and tell us!

Dior Has a New Top Designer: Raf Simons

Apr 9, 2012 @ 2:00 pm

Back in February, the label Jil Sander announced its forward-thinking creative director since 2005, Raf Simons, would be stepping down. Many in the fashion industry—including us—were left to ponder where the Belgian wunderkind would land. But not anymore! The talent is taking over the top spot at Christian Dior, a position that Dior executives have been trying to fill since last March when then-designer John Galliano was dismissed for inappropriate conduct. “Mr. Christian Dior has always been for me the most inspiring couturier,” Simons said in a statement. “I am truly humbled and honored to become artistic director of the most celebrated French house in the world.” We can’t wait to see what he does for Dior! And which celebrities will wear his creations! His first collection will debut this July during Haute Couture Fashion Week in Paris.

Raf Simons Leaves Jil Sander

Feb 23, 2012 @ 10:55 am

There is some shakeup in the fashion industry today! Jil Sander announced its creative director Raf Simons will be stepping down from his role, effective Monday, February 27th. Simons has held the position since 2005, and his fashion-forward designs for the label have landed on celebrities like Kate Bosworth, Kate BeckinsaleNicole Kidman, and more ever since. This raises some questions, of course. “Who will take Raf’s place at Jil Sander? #speculation,” Tweeted InStyle‘s managing editor Ariel Foxman upon hearing the news. The label said in a statement that it will announce a replacement in a few days. As for Simons, we have to wonder: Where will he go? Will he occupy the vacant top designer spot at Christian Dior? Only time will tell!

Runway Looks We Love: Jil Sander

Sep 27, 2011 @ 11:00 am

Jil Sander‘s spring 2012 collection featured an easy-to-love (and want) architectural quality to it. Creative director Raf Simons sent crisp white day looks down the runway to open the show, followed by head-to-toe white outfits for evening, with shots of bright color and prints like paisley and gingham interjected throughout. Minimalistic bags and shoes accessorized the lineup, as well as ‘50s-style hats with veiled netting. See our favorite looks from the collection in the gallery.

Runway Looks We Love: Jil Sander

Mar 1, 2011 @ 1:18 pm

Jil Sander‘s fall 2011 runway collection showcased sporty skiwear mixed with high fashion. The line was full of unexpected volume—the looks, fashioned from light-as-air fabrics, seemed to float down the runway. With slick wedge boots and candy-colored clutches, the line featured saturated pops of vibrant colors, but cobalt was especially a standout. Click through the gallery to see the entire Jil Sander fall 2011 collection.

Celebrity Winter Beauty Secrets

Jan 6, 2011 @ 10:20 am

Beauty routines change with the weather. And now that the temperatures dropped, we caught up with the gorgeous celebrities at the CoverGirl 50th anniversary party in Los Angeles last night to find out their winter beauty secrets. “Always a little concealer,” Drew Barrymore told us of her signature beauty look (no matter the season!). “And always a ton of cover up stuff.” Although Barrymore, who wore a Jil Sander dress, Hunting Season clutch and a Lucifer vir Honestus ring, said it goes beyond that. “But, beauty is within. I don’t care if you’re the most attractive person on the planet. If you’re not good on the inside, it will show. You fall in love with people from the inside out.” See more celebrity winter beauty secrets and other party guests in the gallery.
