Jessica Paré Reveals Her Four Favorite Mad Men Costumes

Apr 5, 2013 @ 7:30 am

For InStyle’s March Issue, Mad Men star Jessica Paré, who plays Don’s secretary-turned-wife Megan Draper, traded her ‘60s era looks for more modern styles, but with AMC’s hit show returning this Sunday, we had to know which of her many glamorous looks from season 5 were her favorites.”Every once in a while you’ll find something that’s really perfect for a scene but it doesn’t fit quite right,” Paré says in the video above. “This dress had been through so many alterations over the years, that you just can’t quite get it where you want it to be. It was one of my favorites, but it was probably of the more annoying ones to wear.” To see which dress she’s referring to, as well as her other three picks, watch the video above, and then click through the gallery to see what the show’s Emmy-winning costume designer, Janie Bryant, had to say about the same looks! Be sure to tune into Mad Men this Sunday when season 6 premieres at 9/8c on AMC. More

Step-by-Step: How to Get Mad Men Star Jessica Pare’s ’80s-Inspired Low Ponytail

Mar 21, 2013 @ 1:30 pm

Jessica Paré may be swinging in the ’60s on Mad Men, but for the season 6 premiere, she worked with hairstylist Marcus Francis to get a throwback ’80s look instead. “We love to collaborate to make each hairstyle we do different from the last,” said Francis, who explained that this time, they were inspired by Robert Palmer’s “Addicted to Love” music video. And you can get her latest look, too! Francis began with damp hair, which he blow-dried with a round brush. Then he lightly teased the crown and smoothed the sides with a Mason Pearson bristle brush ($99 at barneys.com). He used a few pumps of Moroccanoil Luminous Hairspray ($22 at moroccanoil.com) to make sure her chocolate strands stayed in place, then finally secured it all at the nape of her neck. “It made her very feminine [Prabal Gurung] dress look modern and sexy.” Welcome to the future, Megan Draper!

Found It! Jessica Pare’s Bold Red Lipstick from Her InStyle Photo Shoot

Feb 7, 2013 @ 8:30 am

Did you catch our behind-the-scenes video of Jessica Paré at our March fashion shoot? We loved the statement her true red lip made against her clean skin, and we found the exact shade with the help of Paré’s makeup artist Kate Lee. ”I chose a matte red so the color would appear intense, but also because Jessica in full lipstick and gloss would have been too much,” said Lee, who picked Chanel’s Rouge Allure in Passion. Also, while Pare’s lip shape appeared super-precise, Lee did not use any liner. “I tend to apply from the bullet, blend with a lip brush into a shape I like, then blot with an oil blotting sheet,” Lee added. “I powder the lip line with translucent loose powder, then apply the color again.” This ensures a super-saturated finish minus the heavy feeling. Pick up a tube of the same hue for $34 at chanel.com.

Happy 30th Birthday, Jessica Paré!

Dec 5, 2012 @ 8:00 am

Mad Men’s Jessica Pare turns 30 today! The actress who plays Don Draper’s new secretary-turned-wife had quite the year in 2012. First, she became an Internet sensation when her special performance of “Zou Bisou Bisou” for Don’s birthday went viral overnight. Then, she was the only star designer Jason Wu singled out to dress for the Emmys red carpet. “She is definitely a muse,” Wu told InStyle.com exclusively. “My jaw dropped when I saw her. I couldn’t be happier with how she looked—people really took notice.” And she’s already been spotted filming season 6 in Hawaii with none other than on-screen hubby Jon Hamm. Here’s wishing the breakout star a very special day!

Jon Hamm in a Swimsuit! Mad Men Begins Filming Season 6 in Hawaii

Oct 25, 2012 @ 3:38 pm

After the Internet began buzzing earlier this week that Mad Men might start shooting season 6 in Hawaii, the first images have surfaced of on-screen couple Don Draper (Jon Hamm) and wife Megan (Jessica Paré) romping on the beaches of Maui in swimwear! Hamm is super-’70s—and proves once again that he can’t look bad—in colorful starfish print trunks, while Paré brings the flower power in a bright, blossom-patterned bikini. When we caught up with their co-star Vincent Kartheiser (who plays Pete Campbell) at a Macallan event earlier this month, he told us that he wasn’t sure if he should show up on set sun-kissed or pasty: “I don’t know what year it is, I don’t even know what time of year it is,” Kartheiser said. “I called them and said, ‘Should I be tan? Should I be pale?’ And they were like, ‘We can’t tell you.’” Looks like he might have his answer now!

Banana Republic’s Third Mad Men Collection, Inspired by Jessica Paré

Oct 19, 2012 @ 12:16 pm

Starting in March, Mad Men fans can once again head to Banana Republic to satisfy their cravings for the show’s spot-on ’60s style! The retailer will launch its third capsule collection inspired by AMC’s hit series this spring, and there’s one specific character in mind this time around: Jessica Paré’s Megan (aka Don Draper’s one-time secretary turned new wife). The collection is being helmed by Banana Republic Creative Director and Executive Vice President of Design Simon Kneen—who created the sketch shown right—in collaboration with the show’s award-winning costume designer Janie Bryant. The clothing will reflect the mod fashions of the late 1960s, moving away from the classic tailoring of the late ’50s/early ’60s that made the show famous. Star Vincent Kartheiser, who plays Don’s colleague Pete, told InStyle.com that he is extremely fond of the fresh sartorial spin: “I like the new style on the show, though it’s not so much an evolution [from past looks] as just something new. The coats, the clashing colors, the vests, the ties with the patterned shirts, I just love that,” the actor told us. Stay tuned for a look at the entire collection, coming next week!, which should help tide you over until it hits stores in March.

Vincent Kartheiser on the Mad Men Wardrobe: “The Fashion Spans Eras”

Oct 11, 2012 @ 3:46 pm

Vincent Kartheiser made a very Mad Men-esque appearance at last night’s Macallan/Annie Leibovitz photo exhibit in New York, walking around the Bowery Hotel dressed in a fitted Hugo Boss suit, Scotch in one hand, co-star and girlfriend Alexis Bledel in the other. Feeling Pete Campbell vibes from across the room, we sauntered over to the actor to discuss the show’s buzzed-about fashion. “I think the most interesting thing about our show is that we have fashion not just from our era,” Kartheiser told InStyle.com about costume designer Janie Bryant‘s Emmy award-winning work on the show. “[Some men on the show are] wearing clothes from five years ago. So we have characters who are still dressing like the 1940s, characters still dressing like the 1950s, and then people who are progressive and dressing right to the height of fashion.” As far as plot progressions go, the details remain under lock-and-key. “I don’t know what year it is, I don’t even know what time of year it is,” Kartheiser said of what to expect. “I called them and said, ‘Should I be tan? Should I be pale?’ And they were like, ‘We can’t tell you.’ I guess they’ll just pale or tan me as they need.” Too bad we have to wait until the show returns to AMC in 2013 to find out.
