Jessica Chastain on Her Famous Red Hair: “It Became a Badge of Honor”

Feb 24, 2013 @ 3:30 pm

Jessica Chastain is an Oscar nominee, fashion plate, and, let’s face it, enviable redhead! So when she chatted with InStyle for our March issue‘s “Beauty Talk,” we had to ask her one very important question—is it natural? “Yes, and as a child I didn’t like it because it made me different. But as I grew older and more comfortable, it became a badge of honor,” she said. The actress revealed that when a role calls for a different hue—like when she went blonde for The Help—she always wigs it. But if she did make a change, she’d do a major one: “I’d go in a completely opposite direction: Gwen Stefani platinum!” Bombshell! For more on Chastain and beauty must-haves, turn to page 419 of InStyle‘s March issue, or download it on your tablet.

The Oscars party circuit is still on fire in Hollywood leading up to tomorrow’s big festivities! Co-stars reunited when best leading actress nominee Jessica Chastain (Zero Dark Thirty) and Viola Davis paused for a snap at the Sixth Annual Women in Film pre-Oscars reception, held at Fig & Olive in Los Angeles and hosted by their fellow co-star and Academy Award winner, Octavia Spencer. (The group starred together in last year’s tearjerker The Help). Meanwhile, new parents and True Blood co-stars Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer coordinated their navy blue outfits at the Great British Film Reception, which was held at the home of the British Consul, General Dame Barbara Hay.

Why the Oscars Red Carpet Will Be Different This Year

Feb 20, 2013 @ 11:15 am

This year, the red carpet at the Oscars is going to be different than anything you’ve seen! Instead of the giant golden statuettes that normally line the walkway into the Dolby Theatre, The Hollywood Reporter reports that you’ll see blown up versions of legendary costumes from films like Gone with the Wind and Roman Holiday. That means all your favorite current leading ladies, like Jessica ChastainJennifer Lawrence, and Naomi Watts, will be photographed against the backdrop of women like Vivien Leigh and Audrey Hepburn. And that’s not the only dose of fashion expected: ABC will also be broadcasting short films including interviews with contemporary designers like Vera WangMichael Kors, and Diane von Furstenberg, all talking about which stars and films have influenced their work the most. Tune in to ABC Sunday at 7/6c to see the red carpet action unfold with Oscars Red Carpet Live pre-show hosts Kristin ChenowethKelly RowlandGood Morning America’s Robin Roberts and Lara Spencer, and Entertainment Weekly’s Jess Cagle. It’s only days away!

Jessica Chastain on Oscar Prep: “It’s Like Being on a Conveyor Belt”

Feb 17, 2013 @ 11:00 am

Jessica Chastain is a red carpet pro, consistently wowing fashion fans in gorgeous gowns. What’s her secret? “I couldn’t do it on my own,” Chastain told reporters at the Critics’s Choice Movie Awards about her primping routine. “It’s like being on a conveyor belt. People will just go, ‘here’ and guide me in different directions.” It seems to be the right course! Chastain earned praise for her choices at the Screen Actors Guild Awards (in a scarlet Alexander McQueen gown) and the Golden Globes (in a seafoam green Calvin Klein Collection sheath). We can’t wait to see what she’ll don at next Sunday’s 85th Academy Awards, when she’s up for the Best Actress category for her heroic role in Zero Dark Thirty.
